Seth’s Not-So-Tiny, Tiny House on Wheels

This is Seth Mizter’s “not so tiny” tiny house on wheels.

He sold his two-story home to create a 400-sq.-foot abode – what he calls “a grid/off-grid writer’s retreat [on an] organic farm.” He still hasn’t finished the interior, but his current build cost is amazingly low, at $22,776.45.

Outside, you’ll notice a simple rectangular build completed with dark grey vertical siding and contrasting caramel-colored cedar trim. He used Low E windows to help with his passive heating system, which relies on the position of the tiny house to get the most warmth from the sun.

When you go inside, you won’t find much but Sheetrock and a toilet he fashioned from a bucket and toilet seat for the time being. The good news is you can follow the entire DIY tiny home build on his YouTube channel and Facebook Page, where he posts videos about his every step to becoming a tiny-home owner.

I know, right? But since they’re not done yet, I’m sure it’ll add up to a good bit more. Once they buy appliances, interior finishes, etc. Still though, really good! Especially when comparing to just about any traditional housing, renting an apartment, etc.

Yes, the interior finish will jack that cost up dramatically but I didn’t use cheap materials on the structure either

Seems like a permanant setup. A basement would double the square footage.

It’s on wheels to avoid taxes 😉 and living more outside the home with the money I save

I am guessing there will be a sizable deck that will increase the living area.

… I agree – without a deck, those big sliding doors will be much less useful 🙂

      Most certainly will be 😉

Seth, what are the dimensions for the trailer? Like, what are the dimensions for each the larger “lower level” and the goose neck area, and what is the “height” or step-up from the lower level to the goose neck? We are working on a similar design and I’m curious on the trailer sizes people are using for fifth wheel projects. It looks AMAZING! 🙂

Thank you! We’ve been toying with this layout thinking it was crazy, so when we saw this and realized someone was already doing it at a wider-than-DOT size, it was super inspiring. Thanks for the info, Elle!

Did you get around zoning laws by having it on a farm? That is what I am going to do. Grow organic cashcrops like herbs garlic n ginseng on five acres.

Looking for a nice sized tiny home on 2 acres in a warm area in the usa. Please send me all possibilities and inexpensive pricing — that is what I am looking for. Or let me belong to a tiny home community.

He’s enacted my primary idea for a small home. AND he appears to be particular about the details as well as smart about the building process. I’m impressed with his skill level and his moxy. You go guy! At $23,000 so far, that’s really good. Depending on the interior build-out he’ll come in as low as $50,000 for the entire thing. Interiors, typically, are the more expensive portion of a build-out.

Does anyone know where Seth is locating his not-so-tiny house? I didn’t see mention of it anywhere (or I’m blind?). I do not use social media so can’t ask him a question on FB or Instagram and I find no email for him. Looks like MO, OK or some such place? Anyone? Thanks.

this is really awesome! however, if I might make one single-dollar suggestion? Get a pool noodle next time you’re near a dollar tree and cut it to pad the edges of your hitch. IDK about you, but I would brain myself on that as it is.

    love this build!

Hands down THE nicest tiny house I’ve found in the year+ i’ve been researching. I’d love to see a full interior tour! Can’t seem to find one.

Your aesthetic choices, structural designs and workmanship are top notch. Well done!
