Student Converts Old School Bus to Modern Mobile Cabin

This post contains affiliate links.

Hank is an architect student who bought a bus for his final project.

He was tired of doing projects that weren’t real. They were just on paper.

Hank’s grandfather owns an 80-acre parcel of land in Wisconsin where they wanted to build a tiny cabin on the land.

But because of building codes and zoning regulations in the area they were only allowed to build a cabin so small.

So for the last few years, they’ve been discussing the idea of buying a bus and turning it into a cabin to use while on the property.

Final Preparations Video

As you’ll learn in the video Hank had to complete the project in 15 weeks because it was his final project to complete his Architecture degree.

One of the most exciting parts is that he’s doing a month-long experience by going on a 5,000-mile journey to use the bus in various scenarios from cities to National Parks.

And it won’t just be Hank. It will include his family and friends too.

And he’ll be blogging about this along with the tiny house movement. I don’t know about you, but I’m excited about it. I’ll keep you posted! And you can follow Hank directly right here.

This is the best bus conversion that I have seen to date. Very clean and simple design. I’m sure it wasn’t and isn’t easy to do these types of conversions. Hank turned a dirty old school bus into an awesome tiny home!

Oh, My Goodness…I bawled like a widdle girl, watching Hank’s 1st video! I could just scoop him up and adopt him, he makes me so proud!

Well spoken. Imaginative to the extreme. A Dreamer that also DOES, rather than just dream. His parents and Hank, himself, should be bursting with pride over his final exam.

Hank: I hope you read these comments. I am so so so happy for you and proud of you!

More windows with under-bed storage and under-counter kitchen cabinets would be great in any tiny house as well.

I missed this one as my computer was down. I too believe it’s one of the best, most open, light design for a Bus or home. Great job!!

I’m hoping to intern some students to do similar TH’s both floating and on land or trailer and other RE, EV’s for their thesis papers or just learning the crafts or jobs at the businesses make.

I’m doing a 6′ wide version in my 34′ trimaran sailboat with about 24′ for cabin and a 16′ version as a houseboat/trailer. You get so much useful space and can even have enough room for a decent party/gathering, something too many TH don’t have.

Nice job. How did you bend the ply in the roof to fit that well?

I’d love to know how you did the ceiling too. Is it plywood or simply veneer? Also what are the windows covered with?
    Great job!

This is a nice build but for me it’s too much built-in and boxy. I prefer some already made furniture to everything being built in. It would have more charm with factory, or even hand made, furniture.

I remember this one, from some time ago, when it was first under construction… He did a wonderful job and showed us some real ingenuity when he built it as well… As I always said and always will school buses make great motor coaches…! It’s a tiny house on wheels that can be moved almost anywhere on the planet….!Within reason that is….!
