Couple’s Backyard Rustic/Modern/Reclaimed DIY Tiny House

This post contains affiliate links.

I thought you might also like this hand-built rustic modern tiny house in Portland, Oregon.

It’s a backyard tiny home that was hand built by the homeowners (and their friends) on the property.

Best of all- they used mostly reclaimed and recycled materials to build and furnish the cabin. This not only keeps construction costs low, but it’s obviously amazing for the environment.

When you walk inside you’ll immediately notice the living room, kitchen, and ladder that takes you to the upstairs sleeping loft bedroom with a queen bed. And yes there’s a bathroom downstairs too.

Just a few of the Reclaimed Materials Used to Build This Tiny House

  • Trim and shelves came from an old shed on the property.
  • Wood-clad windows came from a horse farm.
  • The kitchen refrigerator and stove combination came from a museum.
  • The hardwood floors and cedar siding were salvaged from local construction sites.
  • Reclaimed coffee table.
  • Storage lockers in the bedroom loft.

Like everything about this little house all the way around . (EXCEPT). Where is the closet? (for hanging clothes or generalize storage.) . Also I’d prefer a two burner gas cook top rather than the electric. The stair way to the loft is a big plus rather than the usual ladder.. Very well put together..

Probably plenty of room for hanging closet items under the stairs…

Good Day Alex, I am going to say this house is 400 sq ft, right? I would rather enlarge it by 500 more sq ft and add a second bedroom and bath.
While adding a larger refreg and slip a small dish washer next to the kitchen sink.
Love it besides the stairs and loft area, I love just one level designs.

So, you want to MORE THAN DOUBLE the square footage? Not a “tiny house” anymore.

yeah you would need a home theate room and a games room too? lol
Another beroom would be ok if you were going to live with more people or a family though. I would enjoy that, do not like living alone in a big house.

Janet the idea of a “Tiny House” is one 400 sq ft or under! It sounds like what you want is called a house! Lol. Good luck with your quest.

I think this is beautiful and completely functional for most. I never need fancy, just functional and this fits the bill. Is there a PIN for this so I can find it another day, thanks.

Would like to see them find some brown paint somewhere that they could paint the bottom part of the outside with. That is my only beef with this house.

This is my favorite inside design that I have seen so far. I am ready for tiny or small home living!

I like the way the bathroom sink is set into the wall. Tight squeeze but imaginative idea! Also, whoever thought to reuse the old dresser drawers in the kitchen was brilliant! Is it just camera work, or are those stairs longer and less steep than most? Your knees will thank you later!
