This is an announcement for the PodRide: a car-like e-bike.

From the outside, it looks like a miniature, lightweight car.

Inside, you’ll find a recumbent bicycle frame with electric power assistance! But would you ride around in something like this yourself?

I’ve been following the velomobile market for many many years. This one is a very well thought out, relatively simple design. If it will ever be made, if it will be available in the USA, and will it be relatively affordable — all remain to be seen. I’ll be on the lookout for its future developments.

To ALL makers of these kind of vehicles – PLEASE make them glow-in-the-dark for safety reasons. It would help negate the smaller visibility footprint of them – if people are going to commute in these things, every little bit helps.

I wonder if the entire top comes off for summer. Even with ventilation you will cook in that design. That’s a really nice rolling greenhouse.

and i would want one of these, why? not a tiny house and looks like a death trap…….

Wonder how well it works on mountain terrain roads? Some of these roads have a 30% grade for several hundred feet.

What about licensing? Speed? Allowed on Interstate hiways? etc etc.

The Interstates have a minimum speed of 40 mph which must be maintained at all times. There is no way it would be allowed on an Interstate. And on a highway in the USA? Death trap, it’s too wide.

I was born and lived in New England the better part of my life. Dealing with snow, sleet, ice and rain was normal so we learned to be safety-conscious on the roadways. In my opinion, the Pod-Ride is a recipe for disaster – in any weather.

Similar product is already available here in USA, the Organic Transit ELF made in North Carolina. Not going to post a link because then my post will be taken down. Google it.

It looks cute and very practical. I’d like to know it’s specs(weight, wigth, length). Thanks in advance.

Looks like an updated version of the Sinclair C5 (I think I have the right name) from 30 years ago only with a roof and blue not white. The problem was always that you were tiny and close to the ground meaning visibility in traffic was always a problem (plus speed of course, cycling doesn’t equal the speed of a car).

I really like the concept. It would be nice in areas that have inclement weather for a greater part of the year. That said, I have grave concerns. People normally are cautious around people on bikes, but they’d not know this is a bike, so it would present a danger for all involved. Also, I live in in mountainous terrain — with the weight and bulk but not a lot of power behind it, it wouldn’t make it up the roads. Some have a 30-degree incline. I wouldn’t think it a practical alternative.
