Ol’ Berthoud Blue Tiny House on Wheels

Video Tour with Jeramy of RMTH!

Highlights

  • 24′ Tiny House
  • Custom Booth/Eating Area
  • Built for a couple in Denver
  • Custom pull out pantry
  • 7.3 cu ft refrigerator
  • Huge bathroom for a THOW with full-size cedar bathtub! (WOW)
  • Projector in the sleeping loft
  • Loaded with custom, built-in storage
  • High-end remote controlled skylights!
  • And much more!

How Much Did It Cost?

Since the customer provided much of the materials including the trailer, some lumber, windows, metal roofing, cabinets, tub, faucets, and other small bits and pieces, it is difficult to determine what the final price would be had we provided everything, but our best guess would put such a price around $87k. The wood tub alone was $3k+! This tiny house is definitely in the luxury category and was a very time consuming build. The customer was extremely pleased with the end product and cannot wait to begin her cross country travels.1

I like the floor plan. It looks like the stairs to the sleeping area are in the bathroom. In my humble opinion, this actually makes sense: access to a private space from another private space.

But, it is possible to have way too much exposed wood paneling et al., and this is a classic example of over doing the wood a bit. But, it is a custom build, and the owners probably think it is all grand. So, more power to them. But, it is still not to everyone’s taste and style.

That is an innovation, as long there is no one in the bathtub beside your wife, when you come down!

I totally understand this is a custom THOW. I understand they must spend a lot of FUN time in the tub to spend 3K on it and good for them – keeps a relationship healthy!!! The wood is gorgeous. The kitchen is gorgeous. My teensy tiny unimportant opinion. I’m no spending 87K for a THOW. I want something simple and comfortable. Keep the extra money for having fun with others – I’m single!

Does anyone know the title of any book that would show how such a wooden bathtub could be built?

I actually think it was purchased, Richard. The builder said it cost $3000.

This is probably the weirdest lay out that you have shown to date. I’m sure the owner is pleased with it, but don’t expect many others to be interested in it. And that tub ! ! and have to go thru the bathroom! This is a one person living area . . . .

      It is certainly unique 🙂

I love that tub but I’d make some kind of “couch insert” for it and use the bathing area as a hang out space. The toilet is neatly sequestered in its own room so the bathing space can serve double duty.

Huh! That’s such a unique idea.

Although I am not overly fond of all the woodwork, but staining it in blue took away some of the wood look. I’m impressed with the bathtub. That must have taken a lot of time and work to built it. Well, well done!

To me it looks like the bathroom is actually the great room. I guess that could make some interesting discussions. My Bathroom is 6X8 so i don’t know if this is the largest. Mine is the biggest I have seen so far.

Love the stairs and full loft. Never saw that before. The layout is odd and it is expensive. ..but creative nonetheless. More ideas! Love this site. You should consider a message board and maybe some info on tiny power grids…greenhouse gardening….aquaponics. Tiny off grid tech I guess you could could call it? Just a few thoughts. Love this site. I know nothing about what it would take to add that stuff though.

Great idea! I would love to see a ‘Tiny Offgrid Tech’ section and articles. The mechanical systems and subjects such as ‘things you need to know’ would be helpful. All the way from, how many batteries for solar power, where to store them, how many kw or watts is enuf/too much. Average lifespan of a propane tank, or how to keep pipes from freezing, etc, etc.

Richard, Google “ofuro”. It’s a deep, narrow tub intended for long soaks. The narrow tub allows for a smaller water surface so the water stays hot longer. I saw plans for building wooden ones when I did a search. Mother Earth News may have been one place I saw plans.

I like it..and the closet!! And the shelving! Looks like the couple really do not plan to have others, in their tiny home. No living area. But who cares! Seems they will spend a LOT of time upstairs.

Speaking of the stairs, even this old disabled lady could probably get up the stairs…but kneeling, when up there, is another thing!

Nice kitchen! All the amenities…except a dishwasher. Love dishwashers! ;.)

I am not one to have so much wood showing. Maybe Shiplap that is white washed..more white than brown. Love the color blue on the door. And I believe the stainless steel counter tops are a ‘good thing’!
I noticed they used steel, or aluminum, to build the house. Also, good, but expensive. Nice tub…but I would kill myself, getting in, or out. I do not use my jet tub, for fear of falling when trying to get out. Yes..I will put this company on my list, when I am ready to build! Good job!

I also love dishwashers hehe. I miss mine terribly! No matter how tiny I go, I will have one when I build my own spot 🙂

I like the layout. Not a big fan of the narrow porch, though. I’d rather either have no porch or have one big enough for a chair.

Me too, Zachary! Building one may be my next project. I saw one for $24,000 on Houzz – I can’t love any tub that much!

OMG, what a tub! It’s gorgeous. Also love the pull out kitchen cabinet storage. Good use of space. Hate that blue tinted wood used by this builder. I know it’s supposed to be a good thing because using it is using beetle damaged trees but still, I have an intense dislike for it. I’d paint or use different wood. Otherwise, the home has a much, much better use of space than I’ve previously seen from this builder. Good work.
