Good Travel Trailer Tiny House?

This single axle tiny house on wheels as actually small enough to where you might be able to travel with it without it being too much of a hassle.

Check Integrity of Trailer First!

I would just want to re-check all of the trailer parts to make sure that everything is solid before traveling anywhere with it in tow.

The Story on this Tiny Home

Matt Larson of Change House Design contacted me regarding this cabin he built that he put up for sale on eBay. He is hoping to find a good owner for it through the auction and I’m hoping I can help him do that with this blog post.

Design

It’s a micro cabin built onto a 6×10 trailer inspired by contemporary mountain homes found in the Rocky Mountains.

Off Grid But You Can Plug In Too

The home is designed to be off the grid if you want it to but it can also be plugged right into the grid in your backyard or at a campsite (or to a generator).

Exterior Construction

The outside is finished with corrugated steel wainscot and salvaged siding. The roofing is corrugated steel with ridge and gable flashing.

The siding came from a mountain home in Dillon, Colorado in the 1920s.

Windows & Door

Windows are brand new Jeld Wen awning style with vinyl construction. The door is custom made with pine and all weather seal.

Insulation

The cabin is fully insulated with R13 insulation in all exterior walls and in between the rafters in the roof.

Trailer

The trailer is 6×10 with a 5000 pound capacity axle. It has full sized wheels and tires and functions as the foundation for the home.

Power

110V plug is installed for power so you can plug right in with most extension cords and power right up. If you’re off the gird you can use a generator. Inside there are two interior lights and one exterior light (with switches).

Interior (Living Room)

Couch with built in storage that’s about 5’8″ long (can be used for sleeping) across from full height locker for storage. Next to it is a 2″ thick pine desk with power outlet nearby for your laptop.

Bathroom

In the rear left of the home is the wet bath and an RV flush toilet (bathroom). It’s covered in corrugated steel to help make it waterproof and it has a beautiful tile mosaic floor.

Kitchen

In the kitchen there’s a mini refrigerator, microwave, stainless steel sink, gravity water tank and cabinets to store anything else you might want for cooking.

Sleeping Loft

The sleeping loft with window is accessible by ladder and can sleep two comfortably.

Heat

The tiny house is easily heated with an Olympian Wave 3 propane safety heater.

Little to small for me to live full time in,but would perfect for like short outing and camping. They did a great job with the amount of space used.

Was the comment about the trailer just a cautionary comment or was there something about the trailer that needed work?

Cautionary comment- as far as I know- it does not need work but I would ask and inspect if I were interested!

What is water source for toilet and shower?

Yes, I’d like to know too.

      Thanks.

The shower is set up to use a campsite solar shower that you would hang from a hook on the wall in the shower.

The toilet is a self contained unit much like you would use in an RV. It has an upper and lower tank. The upper tank holds water for flushing and the lower tank would hold the waste. The flushing mechanism is battery operated.

The water source for the kitch sink is a simple porcelain water container with a spigot.

Very well designed and an amazing use of space. I don’t care for the loft access–seems claustrophobic to me. Hard to escape in case of a fire. That
aside, shows what can be done with a small space.

Super tiny, but well done. Really like the use of the locker in the corner, and the bathroom floor mosaic. Nice touch.

Where is the water for shower and Toilet? Why doesn’t the kitchen sink have a water? Love the house other wise. Is he selling the house plans for this tiny house. I could see me making this a girl cave. lol

I looked at the kitchen set up again. From a girls point of view it can be made more efficient by taking out the window where the sink is and putting up three long shelves. Replace the frig with a bigger one,put microwave on shelf and hot plate on counter. Just a thought.

It’s me again! LOL ! I took another look at the living room. The two windows where the desk is,I would remove them and put in shelving. You already have enough light from door and window in that room.

If that is an RV 2-section toilet with holding tank on bottom, would there be room to take it apart and remove the holding tank for emptying? Might be a good idea to have a door to the outside in the bathroom to make emptying easier.

The toilet is a Thetford Curve sitting higher than most RV style toilets. To take apart you simply flip a lever and lift the top (bowl and fresh water tank) off. Then you can pick up the bottom half to take out and dispose of in any public toilet. I have one that I tent camp with. I have seen a fiberglass camper that had an outside door that allowed you to take the holding tank out with. You would still have to stand over the unit to reattach however.

Absolutely adorable! I love the outside finishes, and the shower is so pretty with its tile floor. The real zinger of design, though, is the blue locker. No home should be without one! Congrats on a fabulous tiny house! It is the standard of the breed.
