Natalie’s Tiny Studio in a Camper Trailer

I don’t meet many other “Natalies” so I was thrilled when this Natalie contacted us with pictures of her Tiny Studio in a Camper Trailer.

Natalie Kay owns “Off the Beaten Press,” a business selling her prints and artwork, from this adorable little space. She told us this small space helps her stay financially unburdened. Good for her! If you want, you can shop at her online store, read her blog (with details about the tiny studio) or have her design something special for you.

Highlights:

The studio is painted bright white so the tiny space would feel more open; the paint color also allows for easy touch ups. Raw wood along the trim of the cabinets, flat surfaces, and ceiling trim coordinates with the mixed wood along the back wall. There is a comfortable full length bench with pillows for guests to relax.

One of Off the Beaten Press’ two letterpress machines is stored in the trailer. All the shelves and storage were custom designed (by Natalie) to fit the needs of her studio. Tools and supplies were measured beforehand to ensure the cabinetry was perfect.

The work bench was designed so that the top would lift away allowing the Showcard Model B Press to be used where it is, and then covered again for maximum surface area for other projects. It works out just as designed and leaves the press incredibly easy to access. The cabinets along the sides of the trailer do not have knobs, but grooves to help open them allowing for the most space possible in the walkway.

A smaller surface runs under the windows across from the main work bench. Wood type is stored on display ready to use, but the area also functions as a great area to dry prints when completed. A tall vertical shelf runs up the full height of the trailer. Large lips were installed so no items would shuffle around during transport.

There are modular storage containers mounted on the walls to utilize every inch of space. The bins on them are magnetic and can be shifted around the trailer when working on different projects. There is also a large bulletin board to display work.

This is a detail of the cabinets along the back wall. There are LED dimmer lights underneath so one can rest and have subtle lighting to read or sketch.

Natalie — you did a terrific job on your studio, excellent use of space — wishing you much success, and thank you for sharing — the magnetic storage unit(s) a great idea — I could see using this to store all a girls bathroom necessities — you know, makeup brushes, make up, hair brushes, lotions and potions and keep them neat and easily in reach.

What a brilliant idea! I think I’ll start looking for a little trailer to use for my sewing and jewelry making.

Well Done Natalie! I am really impressed. I bet the trailer did not come out of the factory looking that good! The inside looks so open and uncluttered. Its great to see these vintage trailers given a second chance in life. No Slides, no fancy electronics, no Problems!

    I love your studio.

I have a fifthe wheel that I use for crafting and relaxing. It amazes me how many supplies I was able to get into that tiny space.
