I love getting to show you space saving small space furniture like this multi-functional table that converts into a bookshelf. Pretty neat, right? On top of the multi-functional nature of this piece it’s also made from reclaimed wood so every each unit is different.
It’s definitely a high priced but also seems like a high quality and unique piece that’s made to last. But really I just had to show it to you and ask you what you think about it?

I agree with the others… where is one going to put the books when it comes time to convert it back to a table? Ingenious, but pointless.
It would make sense for an ancillary table – use it for books except when visitors show up for a meal, then convert it to a table. Moving the books once in a while wouldn’t be that big a deal, but for everyday use …not all that practical.
No only inconvenient moving & storing stuff while you use it as a table but a cost of $1,197.99 and that’s at a discount (retail price $1,895.00) + an additional $100 surcharge shipping fee. I’m like YIKES!!
How about a table that converts to a chair? No, no, wait… I have it… How about a table that converts to a table?
I agree… it’s expensive & impractical. I’d not want to have to empty off the shelves everyday in order to use it for a table. And, I don’t feel that in a small house, there’s room for a table just to be used for guests on occasion. So, no…. I would not want it! I’d prefer a regular fold-down table, which might have room for a few books or decorative items, on the shelf part which doesn’t fold down.
It makes sense in some ways, since you could be using it for a bookshelf, then later as a table when you rearrange your house or move or whatever. The best multifunctional furniture from my point of view is something that doesn’t require a lot of fuss and bother to go from one use to another and is used for all purposes on a regular basis. This thing would be more like convertible furniture, where you usually keep it in one mode for longer term use but can use it for something else later. The real downfall though is that when used as a bookshelf it doesn’t fit right up against a wall so you waste valuable tiny space. Might be better for a retail display space than home use.
Yes. The idea is super and the table exhibits very cool design and materials. The execution after purchase is the problem. You either have a bookshelf or you have a table. No one would use it for both and move the stuff about–well, at least not me.
Uh, yeah. Nice idea, but not worth $1200 to me when I can have both a table and a bookshelf separately for much less. Oh, and I DESPISE sites which force you to sign up for a site membership and newsletter just so you can look at one page. If anyone wants you can look at the page with the login of [email protected] PW:biteme. No worries as that is not my actual email. lol
Until I read the price, I just thought that it was a totally stupid idea (for all of the reasons as above) but after reading the price, I realize that it must be a joke. C’mon – we’re practical people here! And besides all of that, it’s ugly. Just sayin’.
If someone gave this to me… gave, because I wouldn’t pay the asking price for it, I would use it as a sewing ‘station’, stowing my machine and supplies on the shelves when not in use. That way when I converted it to table mode it would of course, serve as my sewing surface for my machine, etc. That would work for a craft ‘station’ or work bench as well. But I have to agree that you’d be very limited in usage options. It doesn’t quite fit the defintion of “multifunctional” rather, bi-functional.
My objection would be the wide base for this to happen and the fact it’s probably metal. Would be running into or tripping over it, in addition to the other objections mentioned already. Nice idea for a stay put home perhaps where you could rearrange things when guests are coming over. But to me a book case is for books. 🙂 Thank you for sharing, it’s still a neat idea in the right direction , with some tweaks could be a success. 🙂 I like the ideas that this inspired in Patricia. 🙂 God bless all TH people. I think it’s an ingenious idea. I recently downsized and miss my formal dining room. Have been looking for a buffet that pulls our into a large table but like the bookshelf better. I would probably only use it as a table a few times a year so moving things wouldn’t be a problem. What are the dimensions?
