I love it! Really like the stairs instead of a ladder and the bathroom with a door. How much headroom is there in the loft?

It is simply amazing to me, and encouraging, that within the short time I’ve subscribed to Alex’s blog, that Tiny Homes have come THIS FAR!!!! Obviously, home designer’s are “listening” to the complaints that us Boomer’s have with the earlier tiny homes: inability to climb ladders, lack of a tub and lack of an oven! This home is a Gold Star, 10 point Winner! There are always ways to dumb down of cheap-out a design: you’re 19 y.o. and have the body of an Olympian? No problem! No stairs! You’re into the Raw Food Movement/Wild crafting and think a frig/stove/oven are EXTREME wastes of the planet’s resources? No problem! Enjoy your carrot sticks!

But, for those of us that have the money but aren’t as bendy or into simple food any longer, homes like this are a Dream Come True! I can see this tiny dwelling being a certifiable “destination spot” for the person who bought land and wants a nice place to go to, while building a more permanent or larger dwelling. Or, just enjoying it “as is”.

I want to move a futon in there RIGHT NOW and begin whipping up a ‘from scratch’ Angel Food Cake with June Berries and a nice sherry. 😀

I like it in some ways. The shape is easy, fast to build, far less likely to leak and costs less. I liked it’s look too.

I’d rather make it longer or wider and 2-3′ lower and eliminate the loft with the same materials.

The windows allow good light and ventilation especially in warmer climates and easily shaded to keep out the summer sun yet allow it in winter.

There isn’t much sitting space because of the stairs take so much room. And they at least should be storage ones in a home this size.

I like this one for many of the reasons you stated … check out http://minimhomes.com/

I think this is the one for me … totally off grid if you want that, but you don’t have to … living on one floor … full kitchen … just a lot to love from a function over form design.

Love it, but the price is too far out there. Fine if you have money to burn.

Too expensive?! It’s the price of a car! It’s a full custom built house on wheels, just a small one. Can’t beat being able to buy a house to live in for $45,000!

      • Mame
        June 26, 2014, 2:13 am

I must agree that $45k is not too much for a custom build…. and, in that case, I’d like to see a bit more ‘custom’ included, such as shelves and cabinetry under the stairs, a coat closet somewhere, etc. If you have a property that allows for such a small residence on it then the skids are fine, but for your $45k they haven’t even provided a trailer!
I do rather like the unit overall, other than a few small things that I am sure could be adjusted to suit the purchaser…but, as I say, more custom items are called for at the price they are asking, in my view.

I’m just going to say that I am a 45yr old small town Indiana girl. An The majority of the jobs we have available to us are not high paying jobs. For us it would take a 30 yr loan to pay off 45k. At $8 to even $15 hr jobs make it hard. Even 2 income families. You have to factor in aprox. 2 car payments, daycare, just everyday costs of raising a child. These homes are awesome. When I first heard of them I thought how great it would be to own your own home free from or at best mostly free of debt. But to me something always comes along or someone or company with their hands out wanting a piece of the pie.

Wow, Molecule Tiny Homes!! All of your tiny houses are amazing, but I LOVE, LOVE this one!! I would have ordered more windows and under stair storage, but I know this is a personal preference that could added if wanted. BEAUTIFUL!!! :)) You do really great work! I think tiny houses that are not the typical A frame house are not very charming. This house is very charming and with beautiful wood. I can’t wait to buy one myself.

The 9×20 is much better and I do love the stairs, I’m not a real fan of wall board but it is consistent and easily painted if needed. I still see vinyl flooring used as a tub surround and as counter top. Folks, Vinyl flooring does not hold up to scratches and can warp easily if not but down correctly. Also MUST we have a microwave 6′ in the air? Especially when an over the range microwave with hood vent can be had and vented outside. Speaking of venting, did anyone notice the “stink pipe” is right under the loft window? I also don’t see a ceiling fan. An improvement for sure, but still a ways to go…….

    • Ms Betty
      June 3, 2014, 12:58 pm

Sorry but there is no “stink” pipe under the loft window and if you looked there is a 44 ” ceiling fan. What were you looking at? or are you just looking to pick apart something you can’t have.

I love the cabin feel to this one, as well as the full tub! Other than that, I think if you are physically able to climb a ladder that you should nix the stairs. They seem to take up a lot of valuable space in the living area, which already looks smaller than most I have seen. Obviously everyone has different values. But I will agree with a comment above that tiny homes have come a long way!

I really like this house because of the wood look.my wife and I have 5kids but,we are winding down with To one in the next couple of years. We have been wanted to do some traveling and decided to buy a camper ,until I came across these tiny homes. They are perfect and seem more homey instead of the typical camper. The price is a bit steep, but I believe you can build a tiny house yourself for a lot less you just have to know where to look and where to buy things.

Nice. However, I would like a hood over the stove even if it’s small makes more since than an led light to me. And I would want the insulation as well. Purhaps they plan to get some sips to slide into the rafters? or maybe he/she lives down here in the south where he/she thinks it won’t get quite as cold. Desserts can be extremely cold at night though people. Buy some wool blankets you can always make shift insulate til you get some. 😉 tc God bless, all in all Nice job! ty for sharing it Alex

I really like the simple spaciousness of this one. The stairs are a bonus, as is the flush toilet. I love the tile. One can get cozy in this real quick.

One thing I would like to comment on however is – I have noticed a trend to put wood in the shower such as on the walls or in this case, the moulding around the tub. My concern is the rot if it is used every day. Have they done something with the wood to make it impervious to the rot and soap scum build up over time?

    • Forest
      May 20, 2015, 6:23 pm

DID ANYBODY EVER ANSWER DENISE’S QUESTION about the shower wood? I’d like an answer, too.

      • Cooltruth
        October 18, 2015, 7:27 pm

You could apply a polyurethane coating over any wood in the shower area to avoid the mold or rotting problem. That would work.

          May 20, 2016, 11:16 am

I used cedar trim in my shower. Cedar won’t rot, or as quick as pine.

    June 25, 2014, 11:25 am

Like everything about this little home . Especially all the windows and staircase, (rather than the ladder type) All it lacks (or needs) is closet space..Then it will be perfect..

    June 25, 2014, 11:55 am

I did not watch the video, but I am wondering if any of those clearstory windows open (besides the end window in the loft which obviously does open). Molecule certainly packed a lot into this small footprint, and all I’d add would be storage wall under the stairway, and a hookup at its high end for a stacking washer and dryer. I could easily enjoy living in this home.

    October 20, 2014, 3:15 pm

For all the special cabinetry work that went into this tiny house, and all the trim work, the speciao steel wire rail, etc., I guess the price was pretty fair. It is a beautiful and cleverly designed house with many unique features. I think someone could live very comfortably in it. Good luck, and keep us posted on how it feels to live in such a cool tiny house.

Its amazing how much that extra 6 inches of width really makes a difference.
I wish I understood what is required to be able to move something like this from place to place across the country.

Check out the specs on park models and that will tell you. 12′ wide transported by wide load carriers.. 13′-4″ for highway overpasses.

  • Lori
    January 29, 2015, 9:49 pm

What a PAIN to get a wide load permit every time you want to move it…..no thanks!

    • Rich
      October 18, 2015, 2:22 pm

and how many times will you move it? That 8.5 ft restriction that so many have slaved over makes tiny houses impractical for most of us.

  • Karen R

I like but so many homes need a little more living space.

I lived in VT, and a friend built a tiny home on skids. He worked a logging job and put it on site. Used it to keep warm and eat lunch, made coffee, and sleep in during the week. He pulled it from one side of the site to the other as they cut the trees. We stayed in it during deer season. Had extra beds that folded down from the walls. He put it on a trailer and moved it to the next logging site when needed. Skids do have a place in tiny homes. I’m disabled now, and this is the first tiny home with a loft that I could live in. Love those steps ! Great tub ! I would put the sink on the stair side, utilizing cabinets under the steps, and change the steps so there is storage under each one. I’d put a fold out loveseat in there, flat screen tv, a small table on the wall across from the sink and probably a “wardrobe” in that corner as well for my hanging clothes. There is room in the loft for a dresser. I’d heat with a wall mount propane heater with thermostat and fan, and mount a window mount ac in the wall up high. I’d also build a “awning” that folded down for travel on the long side of the trailer, made of metal roofing with wood post holding it up and have it out about 8 ft. Could I draw up some drawings and have them put on this sight ? How can I do this and who do I send it to ? I’m going to build me a tiny home in the future.

This is my second look at this tiny house and am surprised that I did not comment the first time around. Love this house and the feeling of space in a small space even when camera angles clearly show full width of home!

I like this house layout. I would also like to know how much height there is in the loft. It looks to me like headache city for me. also not to crazy about a tub, but that is easy to change to a shower stall. Over all a very nice looking home. Storage under the stairs is easy to do and cheaper to do yourself. I would put a washer dryer in front of the sliding bathroom door. I also agree on adding a microwave with vent above the stove is a better idea. I hope the folks that bought this home live a happy life in it. I am sure I would.

That price is very high. My home is 36 feet by 50 feet and is priced at $45,000. and has a lot more that that little house offers.

I love this house. I wonder if you could tell me a little bit about how it is insulated, and how much the whole project cost?

  • Ellen
    April 11, 2015, 5:38 pm

How do you mange to haul a house nine feet wide? If you do it, why does no one else? It is always 8feet or MAYBE 8.5. This house is great. Can see the advantage of it being a tad longer for a living area. Stairs are great but so seem to DOMINATE the space. Perhaps a way to make stairs multifunctioning? Like the stairs used in other houses you have done. Sort of a tansu approach. Oh yes. CLOSETS? are there any? Love the built in entertainment center in other model.

STAIRS WONDERFUL STAIRS! I also appreciate how the small refrigerator is raised for ease of access, and the space below is claimed for storage. The Dutch Door is also a wonderful feature! I have one on my kitchen and it’s great for having the door open, but not letting in leaves or varmints.

  • Virginia

Just a suggestion (and I hate to make it), but could you not show so many redundant pictures? For this listing, there are 10 pictures of the exterior, 5 pictures of the kitchen, and several of the staircase. The previous post for today includes just about as many redundancies. Oh! And don’t use pictures that show people’s feet. Just my personal opinion, and I’m sure I’ll be blasted off the planet for bringing it up.

  • Bruce
    May 20, 2015, 8:52 pm

In regard to the price I need more bang for the buck, like some storage under the stairs, a 2nd loft… WHEELS… a lot more $$$ to spend to get it up to snuff . I like it but not for that price with so much more to do… just MHO

  • Trish
    May 21, 2015, 11:27 am

Although small, it does have the necessities to live in it. I really like the stove/oven, larger fridge, the loft and staircase. However, it doesn’t have any storage and lacks in natural light. The interior has the appearance of a trailer and not an actual home. I’m not fond of this one.

Really love this home!! I think its a great design. My prefrence would be to put the kitchen under the stairs as to have more living room space, but that is just me. The loft is beautiful, with so much room. Great job!

Nice job and good value. I DO wish that the carbon monoxide vent would be placed elsewhere or eliminate the window. Also put at least one fire egress window in the loft. There are good reasons for most codes and the inspectors might grant an occupancy permit in spite of it being “tiny”.

  • October 19, 2015, 10:14 am

I just love this molecule tiny house. It’s nicely done. I love the custom build cabinets, the tile backsplash is really nice!! I like that the kitchen is very functional with the full stove/oven and full fridge it even has a nice microwave. I really love the bathroom!! The copper vessel sink is awesome!! It’s pretty cool to have a soaker tub and the tile work is just awesome!! The upstairs loft looks pretty large. Enjoy your new home!! Thank you for sharing, it was really nice!! Carol Perry

I want to maybe buy this house, or one like it from this builder, and I can not find out where they are located in order to make contact with them..! If anyone can be so kind as to pass along their addy other then the link above as they do not have a home link there, and I want to make contact with them find out where they are located, and how much to either have one built where I want, or how much it would be to have one trailered there to the spot where I will live out my days…!
    Thanks in advance…!

I believe they are near Santa Cruz CA. Their Facebook page “isn’t available”. And the link here is not working. Alex, can you help?

  • Dick
    May 19, 2016, 10:43 pm

Alex, I echo Gigi’s comment. The video is marked “private” now–and there are several other videos marked “private” in the newsletter you sent out today. Also, Molecule’s blogspot blog is now invite only. Not a good thing for a company trying to market its product–which is a very good product IMO.
