If you’re anything like me you also happen to like yurts. Or pretty much any “alternative living” type of structure.

So I wanted to show you this private yurt cabin in Malibu, California today.

It’s surrounded by a fully functioning organic citrus farm and vegetable garden which I think makes it even better.

I’ve always wanted to stay in a yurt so I’ve got something like this on my mind for my next vacation, how about you?

I encourage you to enjoy the rest of the tour inside the yurt below:

Loft In Malibu Yurt

Inside the yurt, you will find there is plenty of space to accommodate up to four people comfortably. The flooring is made of bamboo. The ceiling is one of my favorite visual features of this unique space.

Malibu Yurt Inside

When you walk inside the yurt you will find the space to be very open, bright and airy. Surrounded by canyon park-lands this brand new yurt features one large circular room that measures 24′ in diameter.

Bathroom of Malibu Yurt

There is a fully equipped kitchen and en-suite bathroom. No running outside!

Loft Inside Yurt

Up the loft you will find a queen size bed and a full size bed in the living room.

Dining Room Malibu Yurt

Seeing how this yurt is located in Malibu you still have plenty of room for entertaining a small dinner party if you wanted. The rustic yet simple dining room is tastefully decorated with Southwest Navajo artifacts.

Outside Malibu Yurt

Would you be able to enjoy a day in Malibu? With this main pool and an outdoor view, I think so! The owner of this yurt is the award-winning author of Safari Chic. She definitely knows how to blend the environment with the Malibu lifestyle.

Clean, simple, very open…lovely yurt design. However, I visited the official website and can’t find ANYWHERE on their site WHERE that rectangular dining room is located. It sure isn’t in the yurt! Not sure if the yurt is part of a complex or not, so don’t know if access to the pool is included. Small matter, just curious.

Actually, the dining room is part of the Main House – it’s one of the two areas where we host our farm-to-table breakfasts and dinners. The other place is on the ocean-view sun-deck. Guests of both the Malibu Yurt and the ZEN reTREAT share access with us to our wonderful solar-heated mineral water pool filled with well-water from 200′ underground and purified with salt so it is free of chlorine and floride. You can read about it on AirBnB. If you’d like to book a meal, contact me directly at [email protected].

I can’t believe this is the inside of a yurt. It’s really rather lovely and I could get used to living like that.

This thing is in California. It doesn’t rain or storm there. Haha.

The problem with Yurts is… roof leakages. Yes, I know, any roof can leak. But with Yurts, just like tents, leakages are much more likely to happen. And on top of that damage from storms. I’d wager it wouldn’t take much of a branch carried by a storm wind to do some serious damage to the roof at all.

Paul, I’ve stayed many nights in the small yurts in Oregon State Parks, where it rains often. No problems with leakage. Possibly due to the lattice framed walls or the small (16 ft?) diameter. Whar do you think? Paula

After looking at all the pictures I guess I should be buying a yurt ! I just love the openness of it and feel like I wouldn’t be cramped. If anyone reading this has lived in a Tiny House VS a yurt, please post your pro’s and cons’s . All I need to do is find a piece of property in the Portland, Or area that would enable me to ” ground ” myself. I do not have the funds to buy a piece of property at this time but I love the idea of having the space and would be more than willing to help maintain and be an integral part of maintaining the property space.

OMG I had an idea for something like this years ago. Multiple units in a circle with walkways between and an atrium in the center for gardening and relaxation. Sliders facing into the center. Now all I need is money to get the land(find the land first) and make my dream come true!

Btw. If you wanted to build this as a model to have people come see/stay to cover costs of purchase and construction I’m all for it.Tours. Parties. Dinners. Weddings…..so many possibilities.
