Modern Tiny House with Hidden Bathroom and Space Saving Furniture – Video Tour

Ma Maison Logique‘s second tiny house design, the Novio, is a 210 square foot minimalist stunner with an open concept floor plan and massive picture windows. Their first tiny house is here.

The Novio has clever space-saving features like a composting toilet in a drawer, a shower in a closet, and a ladder tucked away in the wall; in addition to thoughtful touches, like the skylight in the loft for stargazing. Some people may not enjoy the idea of a toilet hidden in their clothes closet, in which case the closet could easily be repurposed as a bathroom storage space for toilet paper, cleaning products, etc.

This tiny home was designed as a guest house for their clients, who have access to electricity year round.  It is heated with 2 small electric baseboard heaters and has high performing insulation and a heat recovery air exchange ventilator (HRV) to help manage heat and humidity in the small space.

I like the kitchen and living area, but not the bathroom. Having the stairs move out of sight is a nice feature. Needs color as it’s very bland looking, but that can be corrected with accessories. If you like a loft this would make a nice tiny home.

Though I’ve seen many tiny homes that I have liked, this is the first one that has actually, in my opinion, made sense of how the space was designed and used for maximum storage and livability. Though other alternative methods could be used than electricity such as solar, which are personal to each client.
As stated earlier, I think this is one of the most perfect throws out there for design of space, storage, and livability that works for everyone. I would only use the loft area for storage or for extra space if my children visited, otherwise I would use the couch/bed. What is the approximate cost of this model as is? Thank you for showing us this one.

Some really great ideas there and nice execution. There are a couple of ‘deal breakers’ in there for me but I really like most of it. I look forward to seeing more of their work.

The funny thing is that while I’m not keen on the position of the toilet it is the tiny kitchen sink that really has me feeling uncomfortable. Hopefully that would be an easy fix but it does make me wonder if there was something underneath that wouldn’t allow a larger one.

Very good use of space. Loved the multiply functioning bath hidden from public view when in use. Very smart design. The bed above the kitchen works because of the huge windows that prevent it being feeling like a low ceiling obstruction. No hardware and push cabinets adds to the openness and gives the entire design a clean, sparse, uncluttered appearance. Usually don’t like open cabinet storage. It can get so mucked up and end up looking messy. However, the long thin design choice together with the overall clean kitchen wood seems to work here. Very nice. Just goes to show–you have to look at everything around, even if you don’t think a thing works.

Very true, Elle. Sometimes someone does a thing you thought you hated and it just works! I agree on open cabinets only because I’m just not that organized hehe.

I love this clever design! Love the hideaway ladder and the end table/bench. Looks like there is not very much storage for clothes. Also, as an almost-tiny home dweller, (420 sq, ft. home) I would like to comment on the practicality of the loft. There is no place on either side of the bed for a glass of water or an alarm clock. Also, because the headroom is so low, it makes it difficult to get in and out of bed. And, I’ll say it, it could impede on one’s love life.

Certainly things to consider when choosing a loft bedroom!

VERY, VERY IMPRESSIVE! Love the idea of a hidden bathroom and everything so functional for such a TH! Don’t have enough thumbs for this one!

Tres bien! I was wondering if you could have put chains to the loft and lower it down to sit on the counter by turning a handle or two instead of climbing up? This is going to save you alot of money.

Interesting concept. Not much in favor of the bucket for the “composting” toilet — they do have a tendency to smell a bit and your clothes would pick up that odor. The way they did the kitchen is very workable, but would want a full size frig. They have some very good ideas and good use of space. Certainly something to follow and see how things evolve.

I like the clever use of the hidden bathroom, though not too sure I would like my clothes there. It is a very sleek home with wonderful views and openness. Nice job with some alternative thought.

As a fellow Canadian, I was eager to learn more about this builder’s offerings, even though they’re in my neighboring province of Quebec rather than closer. I was very disappointed to find their site only navigable through Facebook. Too bad… as I’ll forever remain a steadfast “refuser” of FB and it’s affiliates as I feel it’s eroded the fabric of mankind in innumerable ways. To me, this is like devising a business that refuses all currency other than bit-coin. Extreme as it may seem to some, am I truly alone on this?

A broom cupboard (a first that I’ve seen), a well hidden space saving usable bathroom and a proper good size table. Only downside is the loft, but adding on another metre and doors oipr curtain or so would solve that problem by creating a hidden bed alongside the hidden bathroom. Truly one of the best thought-out and designed THs on the site. Full marks.

Very well thought out plans. I like most of it. I don’t care for the edges of the counters. I would have covered them with some trim. : ) As someone “older”, I don’t like having to climb a ladder and/or crawl into a bed. No fun changing the linen that way, either. I like all the lighting, but don’t care to see someone dangling their feet (specially with shoes on) over my kitchen counter. I agree on the bucket under toilet in closet idea that someone else mentioned. Other than those things, I think they did a very nice job on the home.
