Modern Australian Tiny House on Wheels with a Bed Lift

This post contains affiliate links.

This is a modern Australian tiny house on wheels in Australia.

From the outside, it hardly even looks like it’s built on a trailer, right? Probably because of the beautiful built-in porch system which of course you would have to uninstall before you move the home to a different location. When you go inside, you’ll find a beautiful interior with a bed that lifts up into the ceiling when you’re not using it, a kitchen, fold-out table, plenty of storage cabinets, a bathroom, and more!

    Alex,
You outdid yourself with this one. It’s very innovative, very practical, and light and airy. Thanks for sharing it.

What safety measures are incorporated into the ‘lift bed’ to assure that it will not accidentally descend on anyone sitting on the couch? The overall style and decor are very pleasant to the eye!

It would be nice if you included hardware sources for the bed lift.

Also my favorite so far. I favor windows in series bringing in light and
fresh air. As I am legally blind, the more natural light I can get, the better. Agreed, the bed lift is bound to be pricey, but I could be happy with a bed permanently set on a platform of drawers for clothing, etc., daybed style. Modern Australian architecture in general pleases me.

Beautiful and quite livable IMO. That porch/deck is the perfect finish to the whole structure.

From what I have read and seen, those “lift beds” are totally “safe”. There are several major “RV” manufacturers, including “Winnebago”, I believe, who use them in their “higher end” models, to both save space AND add more room for sleeping. And if you’re just TOO LAZY to “make the bed” in the morning, just raise it up “messy” into the ceiling! LOL! thanks for the GREAT article and photos! Greg

Great, I have been always thinking about a lift up bed instead of a loft one where you have to crawl and beside that it doesn’t need any floor space in a tiny place like a Murphy Bed.
Another great feature is the spacious porch which protects from the elements and allows outdoor living. Beside that it takes off the narrow
basic structure of street legal tiny homes.
Unfortunately the in build furniture are mostly along the long sides. It would be better to put some – like the foldout table – across or as a nook to widen the house optically.
The settee doesn’t look very comfortable and seat depth seems to me
for kids or short people only.
I don’t like the storage or whatever loft it is. Storage/weight should be down and not up. A step or underfloor location makes it easier to access and would allow to reduce the overall height.
It would be interesting to learn about measures, how it is build (I couldn’t figure it out from the video) and the price tag.
Thanks Alex for this great and modern tint house. Its always good to look over the fence and see what in other parts of the world has been done.

I had the pleasure of checking out this house in the flesh a couple of weeks ago and meeting the clever folk who designed and built it. It was beautifully done and indeed didn’t look like a tiny house at all. It almost felt more like a modern tiny cafe! The bed lift worked with a remote control and moved up and down very slowly. When at the bottom it had a fold out ‘leg’ that helped support it. I loved the big couch (although the bed above did give a bit of a closed in feel) and the bathroom was awesome. Rather than having a vanity in the tiny bathroom they brought it out and popped it next to the washing machine/dryer. This allowed for a long window in the bathroom with louvers for extra airflow. It felt super spacious. They also had a huge mirror which gave a greater sense of space. Finally a tiny house with lots of windows! And the best bit was the removable porch. So awesome. This is the most similar design we’ve seen to the one we’re going to build next year. But it was pricey. They said if they sold it they’ve charge AU$150K. Too much for us….

At last, a bed lift. I’ve been a fan of them for years, however they are few and far between.
Rather than a porch that unbolted, I’d go for one that folded up, and the roof down.

This is a rerun, but my comments still stand. Down with loft beds. And outdoor loos.

Our Safari Trek motorhome has this “magic bed”. We have been sleeping in it for 16 years. So glad to see these in a tiny home. Fabulous use of space.

Hi, thanks for the info!. From everything I have viewed in the past year my solution to bedding/sleeping in a small space would be a MURPHY BED or folding couch into a bed. There is no need for a ladder to go upstairs (and somehow try to negotiate in the middle of the night if you have to use the bathroom). I do like having a bed upstairs IF there is enough room above the bed to stand up and there is a normal stairway (not a ladder). thanks! rachel

Love the lift bed! If it seems too claustrophobic with the bed elevated, why not paint the underside a pale blue and sponge on a few soft white clouds.

I too love the loft bed. Very smartly designed home. I personally would look at different seating arrangement. But this is well done.

Beautiful! I’ve seen lift beds in RVs and even sprinter vans. About time someone applied this to a Tiny Home.
    Suggestions…
The kitchen is downright luxurious in size. For my preferences, I’d trim a few feet off of it and give that to additional living space next to the built-ins and the bed.
Also, maybe put your considerable talent in to making a more affordable version.

Stared at this. Beautiful! Cleverly done and so clean. Kitchen is nice a lot of
storage in there. The walls behind the seats are classy and stand out. Love the floors. Love this tiny home. 😀

I love these rising platforms! If I were designing my THOW, I’d have one platform on each end; one for the bed, and on the other end, one for my guitars, amp, keyboards, drum kit. The only thing I’d change re the bed platform would be to put up a drapery rod with short draperies so when the bed is raised it disappears behind the draperies. Other than this, it’s good to go! Genius idea! 🙂

It’s so sad to see this once thought affordable Tiny house movement, where you could own a $10,000.00 home turning into homes now costing Upwards ofn$100.000.00 dollars. This just goes to show .. it’s all about $$$ money. It’s pathetic as one can actually buy a fixer upper stick built home for $60K.

Please can you tell me the manufacturer of this bed lift? I’ve been looking for it for so long!

The bed was built by Nathan Nostaw in collaboration with The Tiny House Company. So they made it themselves as an option for their homes.

Bed lifts can be DIY’ed and that’s often preferable because the commercial versions are usually sold by designer furniture companies that would charge a hefty fee and they’re usually in Europe, which can also make them hard to get. Like the German LiftBed Company, which makes the one that disappears into the ceiling that you may have seen before, and Italian furniture company Espace Loggia is another example that uses counter weights so it doesn’t have to be motorized and the bed can just be lifted or lowered…

While options like Lippert’s EuroLoft™ Bed Lift, it’s the one with the straps on the 4 sides that lift and lower the bed as a platform, are primarily sold to RV manufacturers but some tiny house builders have started to source them…

For DIY options, Ana White’s version that she did for the Tiny House she built is a popular option that many have copied…
