Professional Snowboarder’s 228 Sq. Ft. Tiny Cabin

This post contains affiliate links.

This 228 sq. ft. tiny cabin is about 3 miles away from the nearest road so you have to get to the cabin using a snowmobile. The owner/builder (Mike Basich) is a retired pro boarder that still loves to snowboard.

One of the best features of the cabin is that it has a hot tub and a ski lift. Yes. He keeps it simple, straight to the point, and in line with his passion. His electricity comes from solar panels, his heat from firewood, and water from melted snow. So it’s safe to say he’s off the grid. Mike also has a tiny house on wheels he uses to travel around the country with his dog, snowmobile, cameras, and boards.

Coulda happily lived forever WITHOUT that Speedo photo—really??? Had NO place here

The cabin–and the tiny house–are cute –and the dog is adorable.

The owner OTOH seems to have a bit of a “show off” problem–see above comment re Speedo.

I don’t think that is his swim suit, a bit inappropriate Tiny House. Agree with Comet’s remarks as for the home and the dog.

Oh please, don’t be so precious people! That photo is fine…. It’s not like he’s displaying his sausage and veggies!

Some people don’t care what others think and like to do fun things… Live a little.

It’s a photo with a tiny house in it on a tiny house website… Soooo they guy has a speedo on… Are you a 6yo child?

SOME people are childish and take things to seriously and don’t have a creative bone in their body so they project negative comments about others they’ve never met.

Ok I’m done. Sorry. Tiny rant over. You can delete it if it’s too much.

Never meant to offend anyone. He’s just having fun, but I can see how it might offend some! Either way, let’s just move on 🙂

His tiny stone cabin was featured in a tiny house book. Can’t remember which one, but it was pretty cool.

Did we need to see his hotdog….? Thought this was tinyhousetalk, not tiny weinertalk….

well, he’s a retired athlete . . extreme sports, no less

the speedo shot probably just illustrates that he still enjoys attention hasn’t lost his edge

besides, theres a case of PBR in the background (i suspect even a meeker personality type might end up in their underoos by the fire)

you want to talk about inappropriate? how ’bout that topless shot of his dog

or we could just admire the cabin

Hey, if I were a man, and looked that good, I’d wear a Speedo, too! The cabin is really beautiful and cool! I love the stove and kitchen area, and the tiny house is uniquely shaped. Wish I could have seen more pics of the inside. Again, very good-looking man, very good looking cabin…yes, in that order!

I feel like there is nothing wrong with the picture. You can always scroll pass it. The essence of the picture is the tiny house movement and not his speedo.

I hope this does not get deleted.

    Oh well,

    Momodu.

Yes! Yes! Yes! The personal ski lift! That has always been in my mind though much less extreme, perhaps a tow rope with a long gently sloping hill for easy skiing, sledding, and tubing. Throw a tiny pool facing the stream out back and I would be set. Tiny house, tiny bathing suit. It fits. 😉

Leave the poor dude alone….enjoy the tiny house…mobile…or the rock house…permanent that he has allowed to be shared.
See the inspiration of the structures and ignore that which bothers you…grow up!!!

Computer issues prevent me from seeing the last three videos and maybe that is where there would be more pix of the interiors of his dwelling, which is what I would really be interested in……kitchen, bath, sleeping, hot tub…..

I wouldn’t have an issue traveling around in his smaller mobile TH, rough looking as it is, but having a weenie roast on a hillside on gravel/rocks is just a bit too primitive for me. Not my type of ambiance. ‘Course the trade-off is one gets to do it in his/her underwear and not get arrested.

    Re: Speedo photo
I know most of you guys go to great lengths to avoid looking at another guy’s junk, but if you had just taken a second you would have known that he is most definitely NOT wearing a speedo! If you look closely (as this gal did) you’ll see it’s a pair of tighty greenies (as opposed to tighty whites), lol.

P.S. Loved thed house. Now we need an article on his even tinier home, the portable tin shack, which looked pretty cool just from the 2 pictures I saw.

Yes, how “childish” to “hate” on Mr Tiny, uh, Ssusage. Now in the interests of maturity and egalitarianism, I’m sure we’ll have some lingerie shots of women with their tiny houses next week? If not, why not? Equality and all, no?

What a self-obsessed, uh, weenie. Nice dog, though.

Oh my gawd people…do you all freak out when the Sears catalog shows up in your mailbox too? There are underwear ads there and in many major retailer catalogs that are far less racy than Victoria’s Secret – which by the way is not considered pornography, even in the bible belt states. The guy is just standing there, not posing seductively…get over yourselves. Unless you all wear bloomers to the beach or advocate for “your women” to wear burkas, this entire complaint thread was just ridiculous. In a sad and juvenile way.

Do you actually pull this tiny house with a Ford F-150? I ask because I have a goal in building a tiny house, but have to buy the truck first and have been looking into F-150’s and am hoping they will pull a tiny home with no problems.

I was amazed at how that stone structure was built, I would think it took a lot of work to get all that stone, all to that spot, and then to work them into a building that you are free forming I would guess… I just want to say as a Wall Street Journal reporter that guy could have been a little better in his choice of wording, when reporting this story… But it’s not about him it’s about the house, and I think it was a job well done…!
