Nurses Building Medical Tiny House for 8 Year Old w/ Skin Disorder

This post contains affiliate links.

Three amazing nurses have come together to build a medical tiny house to better care for this 8 year old boy who was born with a terrible skin disorder called epidermolysis bullosa.

The cozy little cottage is called the Honey House and it functions like a burn unit on wheels that will provide better treatment for Brian Ilg.

I wanted to show you the current progress of the house (which even has dormers and a loft to store Brian’s medical supplies) as well as give you a chance to help build it.

And here’s the best part.. It won’t cost you anything to help but you can donate money if you want to. All they’re asking for is your vote and you can help them win $10,000 from Kind Snacks to help with their Honey House project.

A SHOUT OUT TO THE NURSES AND CONGRATULATIONS!!! More home like this should be built for disabled, elderly, and others in manageable structures for them.

Thanks for this great article and the pics! I just have the Facebook page and it’s so nice to see it all laid out like this. We’re getting some serious tiny house experience as we create this unit for Brian; this little cottage is going to make a big difference in the life of a very brave boy. Can you vote for us so we’ll get this grant?

I was so very touched by the nurses caring and compassion. I share the same name as the boy and I send him greetings from Australia. Would love to read his thoughts on his super new home. He is very fortunate to have such caring friends in the nurses.

I’ll be posting pics of Brian in the Honey House as soon as we’re up and running! Can’t wait! We call it the Honey House because he’s my honey–he’s just 8 going on 9 so he’s still a huggy little bear when you cuddle with him. Thank you for the good wishes from Australia, Brian! We need votes–we’re about 250 away from 1st place in this darn grant promotion. Too close to quit, but I’m so tired of making a pest of myself! http://projects.kindsnacks.com/project/help-build-the-honey-house/

Wow, nice to see other tiny houses. I live near the Honey House project and its amazing to see it come together with hard work, donations from generous companies and wonderful people with big hearts! I think I need a tiny house for my family when they come to visit! This is the wave of the future!

Forgive me if I missed something, but how will this help Brian? I’m thinking a small house would just give him closer quarters in which to rub his skin on something, thus causing even more sites of inflammation.

Brian’s family home has one bathroom and it’s not handicapped accessible; getting into the bathtub is kind of a big deal, getting out of it, too. This unit has a walk-in whirlpool bath, similar to what you’d find in a hospital’s burn unit. Currently, his medical care is being done pretty much in the midst of his family’s living situation–with typical household surfaces that cannot be completely cleaned–this dedicated space, with materials that can be terminally cleaned, will reduce the risk of infection. I hope I’ve answered your questions; did we get your vote? I’ve been Brian’s nurse for 6 years and I’m trying to provide him with as much comfort and as high-quality care as I possibly can.
