Did you know that Matthew McConaughey, the famous actor, also enjoys small spaces? According to an article and interview with him in 2008 on Architectural Digest, he used to live out of a GMC van at least occasionally in 1996 which turned out to be too small for him. More recently, in 2004, McConaughey got himself a 2004 Airstream International CCD 28. He named his Airstream the Canoe.1

If you’re wondering where he keeps his Airstream it’s in an RV park in Malibu, California right on a prime surfing spot in the area. And so far, according to this article on Architectural Digest, McConaughey has used it for living out of, as an office, taking it on road trips, and more.1

The actor also mentions another thing you might enjoy about the beauty of small spaces in the article. McConaughey says, “the thing about small spaces is that they’re relaxing. You’re limited in your options.”3

“It’s got a great window right above your pillow, so when you wake up in the morning, you’re looking right at the ocean or wherever your backyard is that day,” says McConaughey.2

What a cool pad! Right on, Matthew McConaughey!
    …still…
Take this as PURE SPECULATION, but I remember hearing a few years back that there was an idea floating around about doing a movie version of the The Rockford Files tv show. Jim Rockford lived in a travel trailer in Malibu, right off the beach….makes me wonder……

That RV park in Malibu is legendary. It’s been there for decades and is a primo beach/surfing spot (as the article mentions.) Minnie Driver and Pamela Anderson live there, too, with their kids. It supposedly has a great neighborhood feel, like the Colony had in the old days.

That is the best picture of Matthew McConaughey in his natural element. He is hot when he is laid back! 🙂

All I can say is: “All right, all right, all right. Matthew has the right idea. He’s not too bad to look at either.

Love that the rich and famous are insightful and see the value of living on the small/tiny side.

I bet he could tow that easily with a Lincoln and it would feel good.

How do you get it wired to handle a regular stove? I have a 2007 Jayco Eagle that’s only 30 amp and I want to be able to run a toaster and anything else at the same time!

Donna – You’ll have to have an electrician rewire it for 220/240V and outfit it with that odd plug. If you’re Kitsap County (Washington State) I can recommend a top notch electrician to do that work.

Looks like a gas hob…so it could have a gas oven, too, and run off bottled gas? If we had the room,mI would consider this for our small house in France, as we can’t have too many appliances on before the main fuse blows. The grill on the cooker ALWAYS blow it. No idea if the grip is defective or just uses too much electricity.

Actually, I seem to recall that “Jim Rockford” (James Garner in “The Rockford Files” TV series…) lived in a mobile home, NOT a camper on the beach. It was a boxy, full-sized, non-movable “rig”. But boy, I sure remember that AWESOME gold 1974 “Pontiac Firebird” he drove! NICE!
