Mad Men TV Star Sells 603 Sq. Ft. Hollywood Bungalow

Earlier this year I showed you Mad Men’s Vincent Kartheiser’s 603 sq. ft. modern vintage bungalow.

For a famous Hollywood person, he’s been living pretty small. And the property is located in the heart of Hollywood.

I think you’ll like looking at this little cottage because it has some interesting and unique space saving strategies, like a bed lift, for example.

Earlier this year Vincent listed the 603 sq. ft., 1 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom home for sale with an asking price of $808,000.

According to Zillow, it sold on 10/16/14 for a price of $650,000. He had bought it for $547,000 10 year prior.

And just in case you haven’t seen it, go ahead and take the tour below. His home has some great space saving design ideas inside. And from the outside, it looks relatively ‘normal’. Please enjoy and re-share. Thank you.

You might have noticed the amazing outdoor space in addition to the extra laundry room, large bathroom with shower, steam room, sauna, and more. Very luxurious. These areas aren’t included in the 603 sq. ft. There also seems to be a garage. It’s more like a mini-compound in Hollywood. It’s like… a tiny mansion. Anyway, I hope you found it fun to look at too! What do you think? If you were a millionaire, would you build and live in something similar to this? What would you change?

Love the red curtains in the bedroom and the fire pit area but otherwise, the abudance of white is boring.

Interesting that he bought it 10 years prior for $547k and sold it for $650k. That’s $93k difference… but, add in all the things he has done to the house (with a “name” designer) and I’d say he’s come out of the deal losing money in straight dollar terms, and an even bigger loss if you factor inflation into the equation.

Interesting to note that the house has magically grown from 580 sq ft to 603 sq ft. Must be those special Hollywood tape measures they use.

Wow. MISERABLE return on his money, that’s for sure. Hope he socked some of his Mad Men money away because he sure didn’t make any on this sale; it was almost “Give Away.” Pity, but that’s California for you; I’m sure he paid a super inflated price for it before the Great Recession.

BIG, clean, nice open areas. Tons of space to entertain, which we enjoy doing. LOVE the sliding Shoji screen effect, having a Wall of Sliding Panels; very cool. I also like the idea of the Sky High Bed but unless the area underneath it was put into GOOD DAILY USE, then it almost seems more a gimmick than increasing usable space. However, ingenious “James Bond”-like bed, nonetheless.

I could have easily lived here when I was single; need more doors for privacy with a spouse, well, at least we do. LOL

    Rory Gilmore Slept Here. 🙂

Yeah, I know, I know…he was supposedly great on Mad Men, but I could never get into the show–advertising on the scale they did (aka “manufacturing consent”–thanks, Chomsky) is one of the things that’s hurt the country immeasurably.

Plus, I could never stand him in his role as Connor (Angel’s son) on “Angel”. He was kinda like the “Dawn Summers” (Buffy’s sister on “Buffy”) of the show.

That having been said, gorgeous house. I wouldn’t buy it though, even if I had the $$$…I live in LA, and given the drought and heat brought on by climate change, am looking forward to defenestrating to cooler/wetter climes come retirement about three and a half years from now…probably Minneapolis or thereabouts. I’m wishing and hoping that small house communities start popping up there, but even if they don’t, there are plenty of older small homes at quite reasonable prices to be found.

Nice, definitely not challenging. Feels like it could have been completely bought a big box store. Couldn’t/wouldn’t live in it. It’s like the Barbie House, with no character package attached, but it does shine. Kinda of a kick in the butt toward the true movement purpose. How large of a village would that amt build for the homeless, etc. Guess builder lost his “tiny home” map.

Is that a Japanese bath, I spy?! I love Japanese baths! I’ve never seen one in the wild, though, which is odd to me because they take up so little horizontal space AND you get full immersion. I wish there was a better shot of it to be sure.

Well…..I have to admit I was intrigued by some of the ideas and
design features. It wouldn’t be the house for me, but for a young,
urban professional living in Hollywood — pretty cool and all that
one would need. Some very unique touches for sure. At least nothing
boring or traditional and I think — pretty exciting!!

I love the separate area for the toilet in the main house. One of my biggest pet peeves is toilets in bathrooms. I know combining everything is a big space saver but I prefer this setup. The shoji screens are a fun space saving element as well. Still provide a decent amount of privacy without bulky doors and walls except where necessary.
