I’m really excited to show you this man’s ‘road warrior’ tiny house that he built for only $9,174 because it reminds us of the real reasons to consider going tiny, which is to live life to the fullest.

His name is Josh, also known as, Artisan Josh (also @artisan_josh on Instagram), and he’s been living and traveling with his tiny house all year! His story also reminds us how we don’t need to spend so much money to build and live our dreams. I’m able to share this with you thanks to Jenna of Tiny House Giant Journey. Thanks, and enjoy!

Inspiring Man Living Big in a $9,174 Tiny House!

66-square-feet of FREEDOM on wheels…

Yup! Josh has been traveling with his tiny house in tow since January 2017… Can you believe it?

Here’s a look at his awesome tiny house when you step inside. Nicer than you might have thought, right?

These shots really don’t do full justice either, you should really watch the full video tour (and interview) in the video below…

But yeah! He has a wall-mounted TV and as you can see makes use of just about every inch of his tiny house.

All of it is very personalized, too, which makes it all the more special and unique.

Outdoor shower so he doesn’t have to worry about having to build or tow around the extra space and weight required to have your own shower built-in. A pretty smart idea I think if you are traveling like he is.

So that’s Josh’s tiny house. And it cost him less than $10k to design/build it. Incredible right?

Josh, this is awesome! Like your happy independent attitude and your over-engineering. My read on you is that “if you prepare for trouble, you won’t have any”.

I totally agree with Josh; being free is what being human is all about. I don’t mean free to harm others or the environment, I mean free to travel, study what you love, learn and experience; not be closeted in a one stationary box, going to work in another stationary box, with nothing else to do but pay a stack of bills that corporations are intent on growing. I think about Santa Rosa in CA. If all those people owned Tiny Houses there, they could have left their property until the fire was over and then go back and resume life with just some yard clean-up. Maybe Santa Rosa should declare itself the first Tiny House Town in the nation! The Tiny Life is the best life. 😀

Funny you say that, since I’m currently building what I call a tiny house caravan of trailers that can each be hooked up to the other and truck trained out in case lava flow (I live in an area where the lava might decide to flow again some day). Santa Rosa could very well be that first community to do that. I’ll suggest it to the locals. My family is currently evacuated, awaiting further news of possible destruction. I’m keeping my fingers crossed these fires are contained soon if not, like, NOW! Holy Hell! We’re still looking for help to rebuild in Florida from the extensive damage sustained on our rental out there.. Can’t be everywhere, but I’m very happy to say, “We’re all Safe”.

Reading your comment on rebuilding in Florida… Imagine if you had a THOW in Florida and all you had to do was call up a company to come and hook up your THOW and take it someplace else? Like one of those companies that move your car from one part of the country to another. Rebuilding wouldn’t be the issue it is. It’s too bad we don’t have a good government. Then we could set aside preserve/reserve land for THOWs during natural disasters and just go there with our THOWs. But, from what I’ve been hearing, the Deep State is behind all of this radicalized weather and the results are what they are after. According to some sources, weather tampering and weather weaponizing to create war has been in the works since the 1930’s, but just under heavy governmental wraps. You say you are in a lava flow area. Is that in NoCal? The only lava flow states I know of are HI and WA. Wherever you are Sabell, stay safe and best wishes to you and yours.

Hi from HI Silver Gypsy, and Thanks! Our security is preparedness for sure. After much careful consideration, planning, some rebuild projects, clean-up and re:planning over the years and around the states as property caretakers, we’ve decided on the caravan idea with a communal kitchen & bathroom (also on wheels for the truck-train ability) w/movable garden and pet station. So, everything is Gypsy-mobile. Everything we create from now forward is fold-up and go (if necessary), yet fold-out and tucked in wherever we land, and off-grid w/on-grid ability and versatility, always including creativity and beauty wherever we go with a zero footprint motto. That is unless our remaining footprint improves the area, then we leave a few big ones around ;).

It was nice to see that Josh was able to incorporate a adequate closet space. So many tiny house builders seem to leave that out now.

With that title: Man’s ‘road warrior’ tiny house, I want to see a hefty roll cage, some skull and rib bones and a pilot or cattle catcher or even a dozer rake on it. And don’t forget your steam punk goggles and leather duster!

Those are some interesting numbers.. 5’5″ x 11’11” and 66 sq.ft. ..I keep seeing those 5’s and 1’s everywhere of late. Let me guess – 7’2″ height? (at least somewhere in there since it’s a shed roof style) 72 always seems to follow those 5’s and 1’s for some reason. Gotta say, 6’s are a bit scary; I once had a license plate with 666 on it, Ahhhh! I quickly changed it over to a personal plate with the California sunshine palm tree theme. I know it’s just a silly number.. funny how programming gets ya.

Anyway, you’re an inspiration. Keep enjoying life!

      October 12, 2017, 1:40 am

Yeah, 666 is just a number… It’s 616 that you have to watch out for…

Don’t you just hate those persistent translation errors from original text… ;-p

        October 12, 2017, 3:20 am

Ha, I had to look that up. Looks like Michigan’s f*d with that area code, and something about the original papyrus of some biblical text, and the film type that discontinued in 1984 (gasp!) and also going on with the primary continuity theme of comics and video games (earth-616) etc. Man, we’ve been fooled for far too long from the leap year of the Julian calendar to … well, guess we’re all f*d 😉 … until we’re not 😀

          September 9, 2019, 10:03 am

I looked it up to and all I got were definitions of “Angel 616”.
Basically, the links all said “Angel Number 616 suggests that we should get our lives in order, and that this will give us a platform from which to launch into the next stratosphere.”
I didn’t look up “Angel 616”, on the significance of 616.
So what’s with all the doom and gloom that you guys seem to be alluding to?

        • Sabell
          September 10, 2019, 3:14 am

Hi Fred, I was mostly being silly, but I like what you wrote about it being a suggestion to get our lives in order providing a platform for the next adventure. I’ll run with that 🙂 -shouldn’t be too dangerous like as with scissors..
I do think numerical meanings are whatever spin a person decides to put on it for their own lives, personally. 666 is now being spoken of as the number of Man rather than beast, and 616 is the new Beast. The beast of order, eh.

  • October 12, 2017, 5:59 am

Is a satisfying result, as it would be to fight the prejudices about these housing alternatives…, “The mind is like a parachute, it works only if it opens”, Albert Einstein he sayd, and here we agree, is like turning a corner and meet by chance an old friend and say: ” Hello, are you here too?”

  • October 12, 2017, 3:40 pm

He did a good job on space. I have main THOW that is 6’6″ x 14′ 6″ x 6′ 8″ tall on the short side,{ Slant roof} . I will tell you there are growing pains with a tiny house. I am looking for a better item that can do more than one job. To save on space.

    • James D.
      October 12, 2017, 4:25 pm

Hey Russell, which item/job would that be? Maybe we could suggest something?

      • October 14, 2017, 10:26 am

Okay, I mean items that are combo units. Like the coffee maker/ hot dog steamer, or mini frig/ mic , washer/dryer . But the few washer/dryer I have gotten was not worth the power drain on my gen . It takes 3 hours to dry a few shirts and a pant. I have 4 THOW to date. All different sizes and shapes. I sold one of the trailer that had a tiny house on it. But the guy only want the trailer. It takes me about a hour to break one of THOW down. It only cost me 750 trailer, wood 350 for plywood , solar kit about 200 with battery. I built 5 for less than 5 K.

        • James D.
          October 14, 2017, 10:56 am

Yeah, combo washer/dryer have the two issues that you have to make sure the wash load isn’t too big because it’s the same size for the dryer mode, which needs space to properly dry, and the other issue being it’s an energy efficient but slow evaporation process.

It does use a lot less energy but the trade off is it takes longer.

While other options like he’s using are low water usage but smaller load capacity as the trade off and he has to do around a few days worth at a time only.

There’s not too much you can do about that without making the space for two units and thus have a dedicated dryer.

Though, as long as your needs are small the units like he’s using can be good enough and fit into tiny spaces pretty well…

What you can look into is products like Unisource CMP, LLC Kitchen Prep… It’s a multi-tool kitchen appliance that mounts into a counter top and with attachments provides you with a coffee grinder, stainless steel mixer, glass blender, food processor, meat grinder, knife sharpener, and Mini Veggie Chopper… Along with accessories like a Free-Standing Outer Housing if you’d rather keep it as a moveable appliance, glass cutting board you can place over it on the counter, and a number of carts for easily moveable options.

You can also check kitchen appliance garages that let you store a range of appliances out of the way but still provide easy access when needed and there’s an oven with a lift system so you can mount it above or below the counter and it just either lowers or rises so it doesn’t take floor space when opening it.

Many of these are China and European products… So hard to find in the states but there should be some options for you out there…

Oh, that washer dryer he’s using is a China made product… Haier, I believe is the company name and is one of China’s biggest manufacturers of appliances.

What is the big deal with washer-dryer units….when part of the whole thrust of the tiny movement originally was simple living and decreasing our use of,energy and other resources?
A tiny house generally contains, one or two humans. Easy enough,to wash dishes by hand. I do fine laundering, clothes in a metal tub, with a bar of,soap, and a washboard, dry on a line via “solar drying”. If you have six, kids these things become more time consuming, but for solo living, it is no real problem

    • Karen Blackburn
      November 18, 2018, 4:27 am

Hear hear. If you need more washing done than can easily be washed by hand and hung up to dry do as we do, use a local laundry service. We do it because my son-in-law is in the construction industry and we never know what is on his work clothing so the launderette deals with it all, plus sheets and towels. The rest is done at home using a small washer/spinner unit from China which cost about $70, houses in a cupboard until it sits in the shower to be used. A clothes horse outside dries when sunny or up in the kitchen overnight when it rains. Have been managing this way for 11 years now without a problem.

I used a NuWave oven in my travel trailer, too. Never even used my gas oven. I’m in a little house in the country now and still use the thing. Love what he did, though. Am looking into having a tiny home built on a trailer frame I have now. Saving ideas. : )

Josh is a smart guy and took a very practical approach to his tiny house.
A solid structure, lots of security, overbuilt axle and tires. A very well laid out foundation from which to build off of.
I love the look of the whole place, too.
The glossy finish and bold grain pattern of the interior wood actually make for a very “homey” feeling. I love the bamboo shade as a closet “door” and that washer/dryer is too cool!
The red sheathing on the outside brings to my mind, the classic little caboose on the back of a train.
His travelling around with it reminds me of the guy (sorry, name escapes me right now) who traveled the country 20 years ago, heralding the freedom of tiny home living and starting the movement we enjoy today (and Josh is doing it on 30 less square feet of interior space!).
Many thanks to Jenna and Alex for bringing this wonderful home to our attention.

Wow! Your tiny house is packed with ideas! What a great story and life’s journey. I am still reeling trying to figure out how you got so much electricity in such a tiny space. . .and so much water, so much kitchen, so much sitting area. . .so much of everything you need. It’s an amazing build. Be very proud!!

I was lucky enough to meet the builder of this tiny. I saw first hand how well it is. Josh likes telling others the story. How to build a tiny place of your own. He was at The Tiny House festival in NC. Also a place to see roses. A few years ago. With Andrew Odom. I was a volunteer. Helping others .
