Land Girls WWII Tin Cabin: Vacation Rental in England

This post contains affiliate links.

Step back in time and spend a few days at this Land Girls WWII Tin Cabin tiny vacation rental in England.

Built in 1940, it’s been newly-renovated but decorated with vintage pieces from the period, making it feel like you entered a time machine when you walk through the front door. There’s even a bomb shelter on site! The Land Girls were “young women put to work in agriculture to help with the war effort” and this quaint spot once housed them.

Get more details about the home and history below, but first, enjoy the picture tour of the tiny space. Book your stay at Under the Thatch! With a special voucher code, Tiny House Talk readers get £50 off a stay in this property if you make a booking before July 31, 2017. Details below!

Here’s the bomb shelter! The daffodils dress it up.

Walk into the awesome 1940s-decorate kitchen!

Enjoy meals at the table with retro dishware.

They even painted the microwave a 1950s color 🙂

Look at all the vintage pieces. There’s something everywhere.

The main living area with a roaring fire in the oven.

Here’s the downstairs bedroom with twin beds.

Love the color of the sink ensemble here. Very vintage!

One of the twin beds with 1940s floral bedding.

Bathroom even has a clawfoot tub! I love these.

Yes, that’s a gas mask on top of the medicine cabinet.

The colors here are to-die-for! Very “land girls” in my opinion.

Up in the loft there’s sleeping for two. Cute teddy!

Another look at the downstairs bedroom. Great pink paneling.

Looking at the back of the property. Beautiful land.

Front garden from a distance. Want to stay here?

From Under the Thatch:

A genuine 1940s tin holiday cottage, newly-restored, near Glastonbury in Somerset. Full of quirky vintage charm, this Somerset holiday cottage for four has WIFI, an open fire, and welcomes pets – the perfect Glastonbury holiday!

Our Land Girls House was built in the spring of 1940, around the beginning of the Second World War when Britain felt under imminent threat of invasion.

This authentic little cottage was originally built for the Women’s Land Army, or ‘land girls’, who were young women put to work in agriculture to help with the war effort. More than a third of land girls came from major cities, so many rural accommodations had to be built – hear their story. The cottage has been recreated in true 1940’s style and is built out of corrugated iron with tongue and groove wooden panelling inside with insulation between.

Every little detail has been attended to in the nostalgic Land Girls House, the furniture is a mixture of quirky 40’s and 50’s upcycled gems and includes some of the highly practical utility furniture built in the late 40’s early 1950’s, with authentic details such as a forties enamelled range with back boiler, a functioning radiogram from the fifties and Bakelite switches and plugs!
