Kombi Life: Living in a VW Van from Brazil to Alaska

This post contains affiliate links.

Even tiny living comes in all shapes and sizes! This couple has been living the “Kombi Life” in their VW Van, driving it from Brazil to Alaska.

But if two people inside this itty bitty space seem cramped, imagine with 3, 4 or 6! The couple has been picking up people as they go, offering free accommodation, which means they’ve had as many as 6 people crammed into their little van. It’s certainly basic in terms of amenities with just a two-burner stove, gravity-fed outdoor shower and some cubbies for storage, but they are making it work! Be sure to watch their video tour with Tiny Home Tours to learn about just how they manage.

Good for them! I once toured most of Western Europe in an identical VW van. There were four of us adult males in it, and it worked just fine – but of course we were only on the road for one month. Good times!

Wow, in the three years that I have been following this journey not once did I see copito in Brasil, as the purpose of the trip was to surf the entire Pacific coast all the way to Alaska. Copito as the 1992 VW kombi is called was purchased in Chile, Alaska the dog was acquired in Peru by his then Australian girlfriend Sharne. The kombi has arrived in Alaska and Ben has now boarded a vessel to continue his exploration of the planet. Brasil was never visited as this would have been a great source of parts during the first three engine overhaul.

You’re right about that we bought the Kombi in Chile.

I couldn’t/wouldn’t do it that way. But more power to them if it makes them happy. “Life is either a great adventure, or nothing at all.” ~ Helen Keller
