Last week I told you about LaMar’s off grid tiny house design contest.

If you decide to participate and submit your own design you can win books, solar panels and even up to $500 in cash.

All of the details are available right here at LaMar’s website.

But today I wanted to show you one of the very first submissions.

It’s a 192 sq. ft. off grid cabin.

As you can see there are plans for solar power, water collection and more:

All of the living is on the first level of the house so there are no sleeping lofts or anything like that.

The solar panels are placed separate from the house so they can moved around if needed for best possible exposure.

When you go inside there’s a stackable washer dryer inside in the kitchen.

Mini refrigerator, sink and cooktop along with shelves for storage.

Bathroom is inside just to the left of the entrance.

And as you can see above the bedding also doubles as seating and entertainment.

Floor plan is provided below:

The inside layout some might not like but is very workable, comfortable with the right cushions. I use 2 2′ wide couch/beds though across from each other instead of inline.

They could rise up into a lounge chair too I’m likely to do soon. Been using various cushion material and settled on a coleman 24” wide camping airbed with cushions on top wrapped in cloth with an angled seat back cushion/s feels real good to my old bones.

The solar apart from the home is an excellent idea. Here in Fla used as yard shade on 4 posts works well. Or use it as the porch, shed roof or window awnings where it’s easier to clean. Only if you are space/sunlight constrained should it be on the roof.

        Hi Shari,
I’m 12 miles SE of Tampa in Riverview, just off the interstate. Would love to get together of other TH people.

And there are a lot of TH people all over Fla, just Fla is a rather large state. But lots of low priced land and even TH’s for sale, low cost food, etc compared to many places. And warmer too!! Though rather cool at the moment.

Jerry, I would love to get together with other TH people also. Yes, Fl is a large state, but I’m not that far from you. Frostproof is where I found my small home, I see a few more are up for sale. I should be in Fl this summer to begin fixing & making it home. Until then I would love to hear from people who have down sized. [email protected]

Yes Virginia, watching the clothes dry is a kinda meditation..like a fire. It’s the simple things. But we forget. I will remember to have one that i can see from my tiny lounge when it’s built. Thanks.
