Community Empowers Formerly Homeless using Tiny Homes

I wanted to show you how tiny house communities like this Opportunity Village in Eugene, Oregon are being used to help the now formerly homeless.

This is just one of the reasons why I love tiny housing. They empower people! And this is how I’d like to see more of them being used. In a way that lifts people up.

Especially those who are in need. This village opened its doors in August and it has been a success.

Current residents are officially formerly homeless and they maintain the property and govern themselves. They’re proud of what they have.

Tiny Housing to End and Empower Homeless

I encourage you to enjoy the videos, interview and information on this community to empower homeless people using tiny housing below (plus how they’re creating yet another one!):

The project has been so successful that they are planning on another one called Emerald Village Eugene which will feature 15 more units ranging from $150 to $200 per month according to the original story over at KMTR.

This is such a great idea. They really need something like this in Tucson,Az. We have a lot of homeless people here and when the weather gets hot the need shelter. I pray someone will start this here.

I THINK THIS IS TERRIFIC AND MAGNIFICENT!!! LISTEN TO ALL INVOLVED IN THE TINY HOME INDUSTRIES, YOU HAD BETTER BUILD AND DESIGN COMMUNITIES; SUCH AS, THESE OF EVERY KNOW VARIETY AND I MEAN JUST THAT. WE NEED HOMELESS HOMES FOR MARRIED PEOPLE/MARRIED PEOPLE WITH CHILDREN (ALL AGES AND ALL SIZE FAMILES)/HANDICAPPED-DISABLED/ AND THE ELDERLY. THIS PROBLEM IS GETTING FAR WORSE THAN EVER IMAGINED AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT SHALL NOT GET SOLVED AT ANY TIME SOON. IN THE STATE OF GEORGIA WHERE I LIVE, WE HAVE APPROXIMATELY 75,000 HOMELESS VETERANS OF JUST THEM ALONE, AND THE CLERGY OF EVERY DENOMINATION AND FAITH CAN NOT KEEP UP WITH THE DEMAND OF ASSITANCE IN OFFERING CHARITY. OUR AGENCIES HERE ARE MORE THAN OVERWHELMED. THERE IS NO LACK OF WORK IN THIS AREA, AND BEST WISHES GETTING TO WORK, WE SURE ARE GOING TO NEED ‘EM!!!

With a growing population of homeless in Hawaii, this would be so awesome to help these people in need. We have endless warm weather so the little tent shelters would work so well. We need someone to take it to the next level.
    Love it!

I was hoping to see some interior photos. I’m always interested in what people own and how they function in a small space.

This is a terrific idea and we need something similar in Australia where we have a growing crisis of homeless people. Groups of tiny houses would take the stress off public housing. They give homeless people a safe environment to live in and a secure home that allows them to follow up job leads.
