Woman Turns Historic Garage into Little House

This post contains affiliate links.

I just got an email from Donna who is the owner of this wonderful historic home near downtown Atlanta, Georgia where she converted the separated garage structure into a little house.

She has rented it for many years now and even lived in it for 6 months while she was having her main home renovated. It started out as a one level one bedroom one bathroom apartment over the garage.

Last year, since one of the garage spaces was never really being used, she decided to turn it into a second bedroom with a bathroom to better meet the needs of her renters. Take a look below and if you’d like to you can even consider renting it below.

The suite is named in memory of the owner’s Russian Wolfhound, Princess Cathryn Natasha. I hope you enjoy the tour as much as I did!

The property is secured with a six foot iron fence and ADT security. Please enjoy the full tour below:

It’s an electric gate with battery backup and renters get an automatic opener 🙂

The property has lots of mature trees and plants all around it as you’ll see. The main house to the left was built in 1905 by Atlanta’s Willis Denny.

The entry to the guest cottage is on the lower level and all doors are wired with ADT security.

You can actually drive your car right up to the main door too so it’s very convenient.

The staircase leads you to the upper level and the door on the right takes you to a private deck that faces west.

The view above is from the top level looking down to the door that leads out to the deck which I’ll show you below.

These are pocket doors that lead to the bedroom upstairs. These doors help separate the space between the living room and the bedroom.

    Perfect. Just perfect!
I can so easily see how this charmer has won so many awards!
THIS is a lesson to those folks that don’t feel that TINY deserves artistic touches! 1) Love the bumper guards for the corners and that they chose to highlight them with the teal paint. 2) Love the extra detailing that they did with the tile entryway. Most people would have done a plain ol’ boring tile job. These people did the insert (resembling a door mat) and then did some fine tiling around the perimeter. 3) They used every available space in the angled eaves. 4) Just enough colour to make it interesting without blasting your brain out of your skull! 5) The repurposing of the ironwork around the sink is genius and the tiny additional touch of the yellow painted daisy brought a nice 😀 to my face! 6) Sweet touch of the stained glass magnolia blossom attached to the railing, outside. 7) Bead board and pocket doors galore.

Yup. I’m sold. A+++ in design and follow through. Well done, Alex, for posting this article and to the designers, as well. Thank you for sharing your treasure. 😀

    That. Is. Awe. Some.

WOW!!! Total class and I’d suspect they dropped a bundle of money on that outfitting.

If you go to their website they have 69 (YES 69) photos of the place.

To all you sentimental traditionalists, prepare to enter Nirvana. : )
