Hilltop Man Cave Tiny House Overlooks Ocean

This is a 108 square feet man cave tiny house!

From the outside, you’ll see a tiny bright blue structure on a gorgeous hillside. Take steps up to the back of the roof, which is flat, and you can recline and take in the stunning views of the ocean.

The home in entirely DIY, with another mud brick stairway which leads to the house. The structure is connected to the hillside with a row of skylight windows, to allow an “indoor/outdoor” feel. The owner dug into the hill and created a cave-like kitchen that looks like it’s a part of nature. The kitchen counter tops are granite slabs, the shelves are created out of Italian marble, and a nifty fireplace stands in the corner.

Across from the “cave kitchen” is the main house which includes an intricate pulley system which lifts his bed into the ceiling and lowers it at night. He also has a desk and various dressers for clothing, books, and entertainment. Watch the video below for a great tour of this amazing humble home.

Truthfully, I was expecting nothing but rude criticism, upon scrolling down to comment. You’re very right, Sandi, in regards to too many people being way too negative and judgemental today. It’s downright ugly.

How proud this man is, to show us all his personal space. …..his chosen lifestyle. I clicked over to check out his further photos, and he looks just delighted in his work, as well he should be. I really admire a person who is comfortable in his own skin, not to mention, confident enough to display for us all, his/her God-given preferences & creativity.

    Great little house!

        Lol… question… Does Mike H have the “preparation”? ; )

@Casper Edwards… Lead is also NZish for electric lead. Don’t know where NZ is? Well 1200 miles to the West of NZ is a LITTLE island called Australia. : o

    Alex,

I am wondering if you might have contact for Kirkwood Travel Trailers that you highlighted on your site a while ago. I have tried the links and they no longer work. I clicked on the picture of his trailer shown to the right. I know the unit is sold — I wanted to contact him to see if he has plans or advise etc. on doing this — it is a way I could make my travel trailer workable and I am in a situation currently where this might wind up being the way I have to go. You could feel free to give him my contact information. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Sandi… I read on another site that the guy who did the reno is Brackin Kirkland in Hendersonville NC. I really surprised there website isn’t up. This was a really nice transformation. Hopefully the name will take you in the right direction!

OMG! What a fantastic video, I can’t thank you enough for sharing.

I could certainly relate to the sense of excitement, creativity and Wunderlust that Mr Lilly was expressing. I’m within a year of retirement and planing on “breaking free!” The only concrete plans are to do like you are Sandi and do some full time RVing. I’ve already crossed the first major hurdle and went from a 1500 sq ft home to a 312 sq ft studio cottage. And, I’m loving this tiny house living concept! I want to purchase a travel trailer and rehab it into something more along the lines of a tiny house and put my brand on it.

I really enjoy this newsletter and most, although not all, of the comments shared. I can’t believe the actual rude remarks that pop up. My feeling is, even if the presenter’s style or methods aren’t something I can relate to, hopefully something can be taken away from the post. Regardless, the hostile comments aren’t necessary.

Again, Mr Lilly… congrats on living your dream and thank you for sharing!

Nice to see that anyone can create a paradise to his/her own liking. This is a great story.

I am SO jealous. I love every single thing about his home. I especially love the view and the location. Other than not having a flush toilet and indoor shower at my age, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Even given the fact that most, if not all of the wood has been recycled, that wood is very low quality, I would consider it only useful for burning. And yes, I work with recycled wood on occasion, usually pallet wood, and once you saw it, plane it, etc., it is very usable, and good quality, even if it may be just plain. Most of the woodwork I saw seems of quite low quality work also.

The bed is the best part. Personally, I would have a dinette – to have a table for working on, etc., besides just eating – then lower the bed so it rests on the dinette when in use.

In the words of the immortal Bette Davis “What a Dump!”

Bette Davis’s quote was from a movie. In real life, she was rarely as rude as you are, and she was much more skillful at it.
