I want to attend the October workshop and when I tried to register, the location is in Florida not Georgia. Can you please let me know where it will be? I will be in Atlanta then and can attend if it is held there.

    Thank you, Joy

Looks like I made a big mistake! It’s in Florida this time around. Sorry about that. I’ve changed the blog post accordingly. (embarrassed)

what about overnight accommodations, do we stay on the property, tent, bring our out, camper, hotel?

  • Chelsea August 23, 2016, 6:25 pm

I’m hoping for another workshop closer to NY state (where I live). My boyfriend and I would love a hands-on workshop as we want to build our own tiny house but have no construction background. So we’re a bit worried about the whole process.

    • Alex September 29, 2016, 11:26 am

Hi Chelsea, I understand! Right now I don’t have any hands on workshops to recommend you to in upstate NY. But when it happens I’ll be sure to announce and you can always stay in touch with our updates here: http://tinyhousenewsletter.com

Will he cover the legalities of tiny homes? I’ve wanted to buy some land and build a tiny home but not sure of restrictions and such. I hear from time to time of people living off grid in some areas being arrested and such. I’d like to get a few acres and build a tiny home and add onto it but not if big government will come kick me out. Demand is only 2 hours from me. Please let me know because I’m more interested in the legal stuff. I could also use skills in Windows and doors I guess lol Thanks.

It’s mostly construction based but he does take questions and might have helpful advice on that based on his experiences over the last 7-8 years.

      Hi Alan,

I currently live in Levy County Florida & have been in Florida all my life (nearly 60 yrs). Wherever you intend to buy, your ability to build what you want will be dictated completely by county/city zoning laws & possibly deed restrictions. It’s imperative that you check these things out in whatever area you are considering. There are many different laws that vary county to county. There is almost no place in Florida that you can LEGALLY set up a THOW on a permanent basis. However, many counties will allow you to get temp power, put in a well, & live in an RV (what a THOW is considered to be) on a temp basis while you are constructing a permitted home. There are many hoops to jump through. In the area I’m in (not the entire county) there are no size restrictions for a site built home so you could build a tiny home if desired. You would need an engineered & stamped set of prints before you could pull permits.

Hello Alex, the desire to know Dan Louche for me would be an opportunity to share what serious and concrete commitment that most of all love “Art & Architecture”. You are very kind and patient with me, and I promise not to disappoint you that do not know when
(certainly my problems solver), but in my “plans” is to buy a
House-Boat or a Tiny House in Florida. But as I’d Like….! Then everything will be different… A Warm Greeting Gabriella Gabrililla

How about a Tiny House workshop in Indianapolis? We have plenty of enthusiasts here!

  • cheri roshon August 24, 2016, 8:25 pm

Hi Alex, I attended a Tumbleweed workshop in Minneapolis last summer and it was great. Now I want the “hands on” experience, but can’t make this one. I live near Rochester MN, and we have a Tiny Home group that meets once a month with well over 250 people on our list. I also have a 10 acre hobby farm (organic, of course), and a quonset to build in. I wonder what it would take to host a workshop here? I have 3 extra bedrooms, and lots of land to camp on. I am open to hosting a build, and can finance it as well. Let me know! Also, I am interested in building custom homes here eventually, and renting my house to someone who wants to live here and build! Look forward to chatting with you! Blessings, Cheri

Do you have any idea what the itinerary would be? We would love to come, but it’s a 19 hour drive, so I’m not sure we can swing it.

  • Jack Frobes September 9, 2016, 10:12 pm

would love to attend one of these any plans for one in next year in Texas

  • Lisa E. September 10, 2016, 1:05 am

Alex, why are the Florida workshops always so far away? Sometime can you have one in Lakeland??? I’d LOVE to attend, but DeLand is way the heck out on the other side, about a 2-4 hour drive and I have to be home at night. Lakeland sometime, maybe, please?

It is a nice invitation, and for me a pleasant temptation. Thanks Alex
