Handmade Gypsy Trailer and Tiny Backyard Cabin

Do you wish you could rent a space on sites like Airbnb to make money, but think your home isn’t set up for sharing?

Hosting and home sharing isn’t just for people with second homes, and doesn’t have to mean sharing your bathroom with strangers every morning.

This savvy Airbnb host has two separate listings on her property – an amazing gypsy trailer and a cute backyard cabin – but neither are actually in her house.

She added two cool, tiny spaces to her property to gain rental income without taking on major construction projects, and while maintaining some privacy for she and her guests.

Take a look at what you can do with a keen eye for design and a little hard work.

Carolyn purchased a used, handmade gypsy trailer from its builder to take her camping trips to the next level, but now she also rents the space nightly on Airbnb at her home in east Portland, OR. This cozy space is just about the size of a bed, but with tons of storage for clothes, food and supplies. The sides open up completely when you want to take in the views, and close completely when you need to hit the road.

To make the gypsy trailer work as a space for guests, Carolyn parked it in her driveway, and added a half bathroom with laundry machines to an area in her house just off of the porch. It’s directly accessible from the outside, making it perfect for folks “camping” in the trailer and those staying in the backyard cabin she renovated. Her home came with a small backyard bedroom, which Carolyn renovated into a stylish and functional cabin. With a queen bed, storage, sitting area, mini fridge and bar, this little space is a cute and comfortable retreat. It’s located just off of the deck, and shares the half bathroom in the main house with the Gypsy Trailer. Tap or click here to learn more about this listing!

With fun amenities like a hot tub, gas grill, friendly goats and a rambling yard with huge trees and berry bushes, Carolyn’s listings show how far some creativity can take you.

Living full time in a tiny space is one way to save money on your housing (Click here to learn more about how to that in my Life in a Tiny House Ebook!), but it’s not the only way. You can also try adding and renting some tiny spaces where you already live.

I couodn’t tell a lot from the pictures, but I loved the gypsy wagon. Very quaint.

The pictures are so dark you can’t really see anything. Would love to see what this actually looks like.

Cedar shingle siding makes ANY structure look great. Gives it that Nantucket feel…
