I don’t understand why, I love this…It does not hit my buttons…But I love it because it jump-starts my creative juices…Even with some items that make no sense to my scale Gremlin, I can work around it.Small spaces require small parts and pieces of the puzzle to work well for me..That fireplace has to be reduced by 70% to function for me…

      August 5, 2017, 3:47 pm

Well, it’s not just a fireplace… It’s a oven and mass heater… A lot of the smaller options won’t run as long, as efficient, won’t give you a oven, and may be more dangerous with the required clearances you have to maintain to keep the intense heat they produce from being an issue…

There’s also something to be said for the very nice craftsmanship and the overall cob house feel of the interior…

@James D We answered at the same time…hahaha.
I have seen hundreds of tiny houses, this may be the first masonry stove heater in a tiny house. I predict this house will be copied extensively.
I am calling it…Tiny house of the year!

          August 5, 2017, 5:29 pm

Hey sc, did you notice what they did with the mini-split?

Pretty good considering how those things usually stick out like sore thumbs…

While, as can be expected from a DIY’er, some it does look improvised but it all works well together IMO…

The drawers in the kitchen with the grid wire sides are also good for storing things like onions, potatoes, etc. So it looks like they integrated some pantry functionality into the kitchen space as well…

And the bathroom sink is practically a work of art…

Overall, very nicely done… and all for $15K…

That’s a working pizza oven! Its got metal leaves decoration on the doors, gob smacking gorgeous! its size is perfect, it barely juts out past the hallway and acts as a divider between the living room and the kitchen. A built in fireplace oven in a tiny house! never dreamed I would see that!

The fireplace/pizza oven is beautiful and a nice thought. That said, my guess is that it isn’t practical because it would burn you out of there. It is facing the relatively short width of the trailer, and things directly in front of it will get very hot… such as the bottom stairs/drawers and whatever is in them… and the opposite wall that is only about 5 1/2′ away.

        1. Don’t put crayons or candles in the bottom stair drawers… or anything else that melts with heat or is flammable.

        2. The floor in front of the fireplace is wood and thus subject to getting burnt by anything the sparks and jumps out of the fireplace when you open the door. A tile/cut brick floor would be more practical directly in front of the fireplace opening.

        3. The most practical place to put the fireplace would be centered on a short wall (front or back) facing such that the hot air coming from it would travel down the length of the walkway, rather than the width of it, before coming in contact with things that would have to absorb all that heat that is being generated by the fireplace/pizza oven.

        4. Don’t try making pizza in the summertime. You’ll put a heavy load on your mini-split and run your electric bill up trying to cool all the heat that you are dumping into the tiny house.

        • October 4, 2017, 2:43 pm

I just have to comment an answer to this because we are in fact living in the gypsy mermaid house and because of the double insulation on the exterior there is no heat on the outside of the fireplace. and if the doors are closed ,which they are when we’re cooking pizza , or when were using it in the warmer months ,minimal heat is released. we have 80 and 90° weather here in Florida and we’ve made pizzas and it doesn’t heat up the house it’s just the way it was constructed 😊we’re very happy with it we have no problems with it and we are so very glad we built it thank you so much😊

I liked many of the Gypsy’s features. Probably the most original tiny home, yet !

    FINALLY!
A THOW with REAL decorator flair !
And themed details that simply WOW.

I know that many people prefer the rustic look, but for me, the elegance, thoughtfulness and creativity of this THOW is truly a work of art coupled with a livable functionality. Here’s to hoping that you inspire even MORE people by your example!

Well I don’t normally comment but you have done a wonderful job on your tiny home. It is obvious you are artists and you have created a unique wonderful and practical home. I love to be inspired by looking at tiny home design as I might have to down size eventually so I am look at ideas.

Utterly “freakin” stunning. I love eclectic decorating! Now my style is very urban stainless steel, mirrors, glass ,uber modern
Yet I’d take this place in a minute !
    Where is stowage for clothing?
And my dogs and I must have a security rail along ‘outside’ of stairway and definately for loft.
    One word…brilliant!

      August 6, 2017, 12:05 am

I’m with you Carrie about the outside railing for the stairs and a railing in the loft but that aside – I love it. The chandeliers are lovely and the lowered ‘walkway’ getting into the loft is a good idea, although I’m short, so it’s not such a problem for me but my tall husband would appreciate something like that. A really lovely home.

    • James D.
      August 6, 2017, 10:15 am

Looks like storage is throughout the house… The stairs, the dinette, and the couch appear to all have storage draws and/or compartments…

Dinette table is mounted to the wall, with the one leg, it looks like it can fold down and there’s a barn door to the side, with a heart shape cutout. So that area can be closed off for privacy…

Stunning! This is what “tiny house” means to me. A real original, built to be both beautiful and efficient, and built on a shoestring. This is the best one I’ve ever seen! I love everything about it – decor, colors, the outside, the fireplace/oven – ALL of it. Oh, my. Simply perfect!

  • Marsha Cowan
    August 5, 2017, 9:15 pm

This is a remarkable house. The outside design alone is breath taking and so clever. Looks like ocean. Love this house!

  • August 5, 2017, 10:35 pm

My kind of place. Very artsy and with lots of style to go along with the creativity. What is the height of the master loft from the center to the floor?

Hopefully, the chandelier with the real candles is for looks only. I’m thinking if those candles were lit, they would burn the house to the ground.

    • James D.
      August 6, 2017, 9:56 am

Looks like the chandelier can be lowered when in use and closer to the middle, over the table, should be fine whenever they need to deal with a blackout or just want a little ambience… but otherwise they got plenty of electrical lights in that area, so it’s decoration most of the time…

      • Lee A Baldwin
        January 27, 2018, 9:56 am

Ah, I did not realize it could be lowered! So it is a beautiful, practical and dynamic design component!

I have to give this build a two thumbs up – five gold stars. This place is just plain wonderful; in fact, it’s elegant. And to think that they achieved the whole thing for a very cost effective 15K, makes this THOW of the year! (Great job, guys! Absolutely brilliant!)

I love this! It looks so spacious and the curved oven/fireplace not only makes it liveable year-round but also adds to the beauty. I can’t believe you built this for only $15,000!!! Congratulations. It’s a work of art.

Love this one! Very interesting interior with inovative decorating ideas. I could live in this if it only had a screen door.

  • Cheryl
    August 6, 2017, 11:54 am

THIS is the THOW of my dreams. Not a cookie-cutter feature to be seen. The fireplace/oven/masonry heater is fabulous. I want one in my small house now!

  • August 6, 2017, 2:21 pm

A big positive WOW!!!! Finally! A Gypsy THOW that delivers on the inside what the outside promises. It’s nice to see a real “home” for all the big bucks these things cost, and not just a 200 generic square feet. I had to do a double take to see if it was on wheels. I tend toward HQ aesthetic and this meets the cake!

  • Nanny M
    August 6, 2017, 5:42 pm

Like others have said, not exactly my style, but the happy, elegant beauty speaks to my heart. Love the oven/fireplace especially, the arching beams, the hand rail, unmatched drawer pulls and the dining space.

    August 8, 2017, 7:19 am

Stunning! While I truly dislike the exterior metal, the overall interior vibe reminds me of a Los Angeles bungalow circa early 1900’s, which I adore! So many THOWs are sterile and have little character, but this one is massive in its uniqueness. Way to go!

I love the bathroom sink and the beams on the arched ceiling. I usually prefer more modern rustic, but this gypsy theme is appealing!

  • William Simpson
    August 12, 2017, 8:52 am

    Gypsy? Mermaid? Romantic.
The Gypsies I have known are some of the most persecuted people on the face of the Earth. But the Gypsies theme is more Hollywood stile caravan traveling music making dancing magic Gypsies, and not the real Roma.
Mermaids? They drown sailers don’t they? Still this is a romantic impractical beautiful little place. A real head turner. Thanks for sharing.

    The outside not so much. Looks like the cladding is falling off to me. {shudder}

    August 15, 2017, 1:20 am

This is absolutely stunning. Love all of the detail, even on the end of the kitchen table!! Both of the sinks!! Everything about this home is worth comment. Even my husband, who is not a tiny fan, loves this one. Really wondering how you were able to pull off such a work of art for only $15K.

OMG! I’ve been wanting to build a Gypsy style tiny house but wasn’t quite sure how to do it with a loft. This is AMAZING!!! Love, love, love it!!! I sure hope the builders will provide blue prints so we can build it ourselves.

  • October 2, 2017, 4:41 pm

We are living and loving it! And, as a super plus, it made it untouched by Hurricane Irma! 😃yay! Thanks so much everyone! Updates to my site are still in progress 😊🌻🌸🍭🍄💕

Outside is “meh”, inside is lovely.🏠

    • Eric
      October 4, 2017, 5:29 am

Sorry, disagree. Inside is lovely… outside is a visual (and constructional) nightmare. Imagine, corrugated iron (or whatever you call it in the States) with part of it broken and curled up. Makes no sense from and insulating and water proofing point of view.

  • Sgmaps
    October 2, 2017, 8:45 pm

Wow, that is amazing. It is difficult to figure out how you did all of that for $15K. I wonder if that includes the cost of the trailer. It would be nice to see the rest of the bathroom. Congratulations on a wonderful home.

    • Alex
      October 3, 2017, 11:00 am

Not exactly sure on trailer, but I do know that they used lots of recycled/reclaimed materials and lots and lots of labor that’s for sure!

Every time I see such a nice home, I feel compelled to remind owners that high winds would be a potential disaster for tall, thin homes. Kansas flat winds often approach 100 mph at various times during the year as they do in other places. Just a thought . . . .

  • Heidi
    October 3, 2017, 11:48 pm

I don’t usually comment either, but I think this is my favourite THOW I have seen. Definitely inspired by it, even though our family’s needs would require something a little different (four of us including two 3-month old babies). Will try to follow your design site, Rebekah Sofia, even though I don’t do Instagram. Great job! (Also, as a farmer’s daughter who grew up around grain bins, I LOVE the metal exterior siding! It makes me nostalgic, in addition to being a great building material for roofs, siding, etc.)

  • Rosalyn
    October 4, 2017, 7:11 am

Love this design in it’s raw creativity! I’m building a gypsy wagon style home as well and am researching best roofing materials for the arched style. I couldn’t tell from the pictures what was used on this one. Can you tell me?

    Thanks and great work!

  • Meg
    October 4, 2017, 2:21 pm

This is fantastic…so much to love about this one…the arch to the bathroom door, the trim on the loft ledges, the blue stove, the kitchen sink, the drawers in the kitchen with chicken wire, the knobs on the drawers under the stairs, the chandeliers, the bathroom sink and that ledge above those beautiful living room windows! Not usually my decorating style but this is wonderful! Nicely done! And a beautiful area of FL.

Nice design, though I prefer modern myself. Perhaps a change of materials could result in one more to my taste.

I wanted to ask, what kind of toilet & shower are installed?

    Thanks!

There is a video out there, living big in a tiny house maybe, which shows so much more of this fabulous build. This includes more about the bathroom, indoors and out, the pizza oven and lits of other interesting bits and bobs. I admit to not liking the outside but this might be because growing up in NZ I saw so much corrugated iron that it is one of my bug bears. Roofing maybe but walls never. That said this is a house of dreams though I would add on approx 5′ to the dining area and put a single downstairs bedroom for one on the end. I really like the stairs but can’t climb them anymore, having said that taking them away would ruin the interior. Every time I see it I like it more and more. Just like a typical, cosy, cottage in looks and feel, and as close to an original mediaeval style cottage while being suitable for modern living, sheer genius.

I normally don’t bring this up and prob wouldn’t on this house either because it’s gorgeous, but Gypsy is a racial slur. I know it’s not generally used that way in North America, which is why I don’t generally bring it up online, but I’ve seen it used several times on this site and thought it was worth bringing up.
