Guy and His Girlfriend Turn Old Camper into Sweet Tiny Home

This post contains affiliate links.

This is the story of a young couple who acquired an old trailer and together, renovated and brought it back to life better than ever before.  It started out as a 1965 Serro Scotty Sportsman Travel Trailer that seemed like a nightmare project to most people. But they saw something different in it.

So they rented a garage and started to take it completely apart with plans to put it all back together so it can be better than ever. And they did just that, as you’ll see below.

Oh my goodness! I have the deepest respect and admiration for this couple; the photos tell everything!

Honestly, as a professional architect, I am telling the truth: I would NEVER do anything like this that I wasn’t PAID to do! Maybe it’s because I do this for a living, but when I think of doing something like this in my spare time, I’d turn tail and run far, far away! LOL

I have nothing but applause and “Bravos” for the two of them. 😀

Wow! What a fantastic job of re-building this camper from the ground up. That little kitchen is adorable…and functional with modern amenities. What a great use of space throughout. This sturdy camper has vintage appeal with comfort & charm. The couple must be proud of their cheerful handmade home!

You can really see the thought and care these two put into designing a space that would fit their needs. That’s my favorite part of this build – not just the wonderful craftsmanship, but the sense of unique personality about it.

Great job! But there is no shower or dinning area. I have seen others of this size redone that have a shower and eating area.

Great job. I just finished rebuilding my fourth camper. Did you rebuild the existing door or buy a new one? Im very happy with my latest rebuild, however the door does need replaced or rebuilt. Mine just doesnt seal well, and I lose heat in winter months. I do live in mine year around since retiring. Your previous reader wanted to know
where the shower and dining area is located. I
hope you told her you only can do so much with
approx. 90 sq. Ft. Any idea how much you spent in
money and time ? Mine took 6 months to rebuild
and about $5,000 in materials. Replacing all the
seams was scary. It reminded me of tearing apart
a sardine can and then putting it back together.
When the roof and sides are off, all you have is a
pile of parts. Great job & pics. Thanks

since retiring last year. I understand why no shower or dining area. Previous comment by reader doesnt understand how much space is in a

I have wondered for a good long time why more people do not do this. Older campers and motor homes are available for very, very, reasonable prices; check craigslist. One plus, if it comes down to it you could even sleep in one, instant shelter. I would, of course, have made some things differently if had done it; however, the only major change I would have done is the paint color, inside and out, otherwise very nice job.

Congratulations on a great rebuild!! Its adorable, bright and cheerful. I own a *really* tiny rebuilt vintage camper, only about 55 sq ft. But I love it and even not having a toilet aboard can dissuade me from enjoying it. There’s just sometiphing about vintage trailers that are so much more homey than the new ones.

I don’t know if I would have the guts to use the paint colors this couple did but it looks SO great in their home. What an awesome imagination to turn this into such a neat place. Well done!!

There is so much packed into this small space. Incredible work for a an imaginative and hardworking couple. I tip my hat to them. Very inspiring for sure.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a complete rebuild, and I bow down in honor of so much care and work. I love that you made such a commitment and followed through to such a dream home. Congratulations for your stick-to-it-ivness!

I see they took it all down to the trailer, and rebuilt it up, and painted the outside and the inside. I would have used the same colors on the outside as are chosen for the inside (or vice versa), the inside colors, blue, green & yellow made it bright and cheery. A little kitchenette, a bed/couch, and the shelves and cubby drawers are a nice touch and made to fit perfectly over the wheel well on the one side, and everything comes together. It was nicely done. I am impressed that they seemed to have done this all on their own.

I have 2 concerns- 1. no door on the toilet & 2. Hole in the floor. Overall it is well planned out. Great for summer vacations.
