Followed one of the “related story” links and it seems getting permission to build one of these can be an issue in the States.

I bet these would stay nice and cool, though…all that dirt must make for some great insulation.

Check out Cal-Earth in Southern California. They have attained approval for some very large units!

Cal-Earth is an amazing place. I visited when Nader Khalili, the founder, was still alive. It was inspiring to hear him speak – for 2 hours! – about his vision for inexpensive earth homes that could be built anywhere. On the property I was able to explore completed homes as well as some in progress. Earth construction produces a well insulated, earthquake-proof home. Very impressive.

I have sent this article to everybody I know. What an amazing endeavor. Some of these orphaned children get forced into the army of the “General”, Joseph Kony where they are forced to kill and are victims of the army’s human trafficking. Once in this army, their life expectancy is very short, often three months or less. To rescue these children from this fate is indeed a blessing.
