DIY 704 Sq. Ft. Hand Built Off Grid Tiny Cabin

This post contains affiliate links.

I had to show you this DIY hand built off grid tiny cabin in Cable, Wisconsin. There’s something so cool about small cabins like this. And this one has a little bit of a modern touch to it because of the big windows and metal roof.

I also really like the surrounding deck and covered front porch for comfortable outdoor living. That’s a must in a small space. If you’re expecting interior photos unfortunately we’re not invited inside today. But I’ll let you know if we are in the future. 🙂 Update: Interior tour now available thanks to Desiderio Ruiz and UpNorthRealty.com. Please enjoy and share below.

This is a 704 sq. ft. 2 bedroom cabin in Cable, WI that recently sold on the market for $116,000. Best of all it’s an off-grid home with no utility bills.

Both 11×8 bedrooms are upstairs and have wood floors. A wood stove heats the entire home. Water is provided by a drilled well. Lights are powered by solar and backed up with gas.

There’s a wood-fired sauna you can use nearby. Plus there’s a large 16 x 32 barn/workshop with a loft on the 5.12 acre property with nature trails and wildlife.

This property is sold.

I would guess it is a vacation cabin not designed for permanent living. I do like the covered porch and wrap around deck.

I love the outside design of this house. Wish we could see more and find out the sqare meters, etc. I could image a modern finish for this new house that I could build in town.

That little outbuilding looks like a sauna to me. I would need a screened in porch, bugs can be pretty awful in the summer. I don’t see any gutters, that metal roof is perfect for rainwater collection.

Yup! It is a sauna. We’ve also added some interior shots of the cabin if you wanna check them out. Just refresh this page.

Single picture or not, this one’s worth seeing…not sharing great pictures that don’t include full spreads would cause too many great inspirations to remain unseen.
I say share them all, single shots or multiple, if it merits recognition i want to see it.

That thing on the left as Jeff Bacon describes it is indeed a privy + bath house.

I’m not a fan of cabins, but this is really nice. (LOVE those wide floor boards!)
The whole thing looks totally liveable and a great source of peace and comfort.
    Good job!

Oh its charming inside. I bet it sold fast and with the acres it was not expensive at all. Cheers from Australia

Do you have the plan layout for this anywhere? Interested to see how the bedrooms are positioned and where the bathroom is…

This house looks nice and basic but I dont understand the silliness of the prices that are just crazy if you think I or other should spend any were near that price and the prices for most tiny homes. I really love the idea of tiny homes but its really a turn off to see these outragous prices that are way above price.

Thanks for sharing Alex. I like all the windows, the flooring and kitchen. Surprised few people noticed the lack of an indoor toilet.
I lived in a cabin like this full time for one year, would never do it again. Having to go outside to use the toilet got to be a real pain/challenge in the cold/dark.
Fortunately, the place I lived in had running water and a real staircase to get to the sleeping loft, thank goodness. Did get a bit crowded with 4 of us living there.

Just be glad you were not born 100 years earlier.

Indeed. In the late 50’s and 60’s lived in a house that had an outdoor toilet attached to the house, i.e. built after the main part of the house. Come winter, or rain for that matter, we’d open the door of the kitchen’s wash up room and literally have our hands on the door frame as we launched ourselves airborne and around into the toilet. Ah, wonderful memories. But not so much fun in the middle of winter if your hand slipped off the door frame mid swing flight.

Wow! The house from the outside looks huge, just love the interior. It has nice kitchenette, I love the hardwood floors!! The wood stove makes the place look very cozy. I enjoyed viewing this cabin but I would definitely want indoor plumbing. Thanks for sharing!! Carol Perry

    One word:

    PERFECTION

I wouldn’t change a thing except put in stairs.

Thank you so much for NOT using a super wide angle lens for these photos.
It is refreshing, and so much more informative, to see things in proper perspective.
