Beth’s 365 Sq. Ft. Cozy Small Cottage in California

Hidden down a private path filled with lush greenery and trees you will find this cute cottage in Sausalito, California.

Featured on Apartment Therapy and winner of the Teeny Tiny division in the Small Cool Contest, Beth made this small cottage picture-worthy as you will see below.

Imagine being just 20 minutes from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco in this cozy little cottage… Well, that’s home for Beth.

I think it’s such a gem. And she has decorated her cottage in a fun-artistic-bright way.

Beth says, “Being teeny-tiny is never about living small. It’s about making it work.”

As you tour through the cottage below you will see she has managed to bring so much to this small space.

I can not help but love the outdoor ‘Alice in Wonderland’ dining area which you can see below.

The way Beth decorated the home I think makes it look and feel larger than it is, do you agree?

And do you think you could live in something similar to this small cottage?

To me, that is EXACTLY the right amount of space. I’m guessing a footprint of about 16 x 22.

Yep, just about darn near perfect for me. The only other thing I’d want to squeeze in would be a washer/dryer. Probably get rid of that bar and chair in the kitchen and put in a stackable w/d and a small desk for my computer.

It is a very pretty looking place. To bad there is rotten wood showing in picture # 6 in the eave, makes you wonder about the rest of the place.

Looks like the gutter is rotted thru…simple replacement. With all those trees they just need to clean it more often, or get a covered gutter.

Love your home, crisp and white with minimal colour. I noted that any colour used jumps out at you. This would be an easy house to live in. It came across to me as a happy house. Thanks for sharing. Cheers from Australia.

The home is absolutely wonderful!! But it is all the spectacular outdoor spaces that I am drooling over. Great job! Lets have tea outside sometime! Lol!

Beautiful, practical place. Adding a laundry/pantry room would be enough to convince me to move in. I also like that the white makes it feel bigger than it is. I also love the wall of aqua color above the headboard.

    Very nice.

I agree with Brian’s comment that the placement of everything makes it so pretty & happy. And I ditto Marsha about outdoor space. Looks like a home should, comfortable, clean & happy.
Thanks for letting us view your little slice of heaven.

I would love to live in a space like this. And I agree a laundry/pantry would be a great addition. I am wondering if this exists as a guest house on someone’s land, or an in-law…. Or if the owner has found a way around zoning issues. Am especially interested because I live in the same area.
    Thanks also for the blueprint!

This is a good workable floor plan, to me. All the stuff you need, without skimping on the stuff that tiny houses usually do: full bath with tub, plenty of closet space.

Plus, the bar is as big as the kitchen…this is a woman after my own heart. 😀

Far too cluttered for such a small space and furniture is of the wrong scale… love the white and some of the objects, but the contents overwhelm the space; drapes far too heavy, need a lighter weight fabric, less bulky…

This is perfect for me! I agree on the addition of a washer/dryer/pantry space. I have a 2100 sq ft home but since my husband died I live in about 355 sq ft of it. I’ve done it for 5 yrs now and plan to down size and build a small home. This one, with maybe a large deck on the water is just what I’m looking for! Lovely yard but I don’t want the upkeep.

Love most of it, but would re-work that area where the bar is located, in order to have laundry facilities and maybe more storage. I, too, want little to NO yard. 🙂

My apartment is 350 sf, very similar in size. It’s the perfect amount of space! I just wish I had more windows. :/ Her place is nice and bright. Beautiful!

How is the swing-in bathroom door working with the shelving on the left side of the sink? Something is wrong with the drawing or the photo. Definitely needs a slider there.

Based on the indicated room dimensions, the overall footprint of the cottage is approximately 23′ 10″ x 17′ 9″ or about 423 square feet.

I like it but I think I would reposition the kitchen because of want an alternate bathroom entrance. I’d prefer if guests didn’t have to walk through my bedroom to get to the bathroom. A bar area isn’t a requirement for me so that entire bar/ kitchen area would be arranged differently.

The measurements on the floor plan make no sense. It’s like someone made up a bunch of numbers.
