This is the Cozy Container Cabin where you can take an Airbnb vacation in Oakland, CA.
Although the container is cool in its own right, it’s even better because it was created by Boxouse, a company designing “portable, affordable, beautiful smart homes” in California:
Inspired by portable, modular shipping containers and fed up with paying rising rents in San Francisco for non ideal housing we set out to redefine the landscape in which we lived and rethink housing for modern aspirations.
Boxouse started on a vacant lot in 2013 and quickly grew into a community of friends who all shared a common goal of experimenting with sustainability and building. We still run all our production out of beautiful Oakland California.

Loft bedroom with under-bed lounge area.
Beautiful french doors lead into the home.
Simple kitchen area here (a shared one is available as well).
Some mirrored storage and a large window.
A spot to snuggle up and relax under the bed.
Curtains for privacy from the main courtyard area.
Toaster oven and mini fridge. Open shelving for some basic food items.
Love the wooden counter tops. I think those are what I want someday.
That IKEA table is awesome and has lots of storage!

Am I missing something; how do you get into the loft bed? The reading nook looks so comfy I would probably fall asleep there. 😉
Hmm I have to assume they have a ladder? Or maybe you can climb on furniture? haha. Good question!
It’s more a bunk bed, as it’s below the height of the door and you should be able to reach right into it… You can probably just pull yourself into it or step off either the folding chair or the top of those selves to the right side…
Much of the interior seems improvised, so I don’t think there’s a ladder but it’s so low that a step stool may be all you need…

Hmmmm. $41/night seems like a low overnight fee for the area until one reads that a $200 security deposit is required although “the door doesn’t lock from the inside”and that the hot water is spotty (both according to guest reviews). Additionally this place is sinking into chaos and sorely in need of a visual assist. That bed frame looks like it might collapse at any minute. The bed should just be placed on the floor.
O.k. to each his own. But this is just not ready for prime time.

I have to agree with the comments above. When I first saw it I thought, “Gee you put ANYTHING up for rent on AirBnB!” This one does not look safe at all!

This thing looks like it was done by people with very little to no construction experience & as cheap as possible with no real clue about proper construction procedures (plumbing still in the works??). They don’t see the danger in some of the stuff they are doing. I don’t usually whine about the price of commercial offerings because I understand the amount of labor (+ quality materials) that is generally involved in the many beautiful units that have been featured here.
But $29K for their ‘standard’ unit & $49K for their ‘deluxe’ model is ludicrous. They have maybe $7K & a week or two in labor for these things. I looked at their website, facebook, & utube posts before commenting because things didn’t add up to my simple brain. I would say buyer/renter beware. If this was just something they built for personal usage I would have not posted at all here but I really hate to see people pedaling junk for high $.

Should your reputable blog be giving space to this lethal dose of #%#% anyway I think not, IF say my first look at such properties was a link to your blog and this trash and massively prices #%#% too I would NOT come back here that’s for sure. You really should give serious consideration to removing this post and having nothing to do with it, is it really any wonder if this is what’s being produced that many local authorities and town planners are NOT allowing under permitted buildings, Ive seen better in scrapyards frankly.
Do us all a favour, retain the integrity of our movement and don’t allow blog space as only encouraging and aiding such sharks

I really am saddened to note that you are still allowing space for this trash I really thought this was a far better production than this ? Why is this being allowed to stay? Allowing the na Sayers on our choices of home fuel for their fires to raise objections to our builds, it’s really very worrying that as a respected publication this is being openly encouraged NOT once but in two totally seperate posts this month, one has to wonder why the editorial team are allowing this? I wholly agree we should be shown all levels and types of TH but this is just NOT on, I am sure that I joined this community to be kept informed, to be kept up to date with developments in this field, however these two posts do NOTHING to aid anyone’s research or interest, I truly have seen better building site or scrapyard offices than these and the prices ??. Common team why no comment or better still respect for your readership and immediate removal of them as we surely don’t want to encourage such rubbish do we? I remain unimpressed with the whole idea, premise and insinuation caused by these two posts, I truly think the Editors should rapidly think again about giving space to both of them, this is a major downhill slide in an I’m sure most would agree exemplary publication ! I shall leave it to you to decide what to do about them to me they both show a total disregard for safety, a major rip off to purchase and an massive insult to those working hard designing, building and offering us all an alternative
