Cozy 165 Square Foot Tiny House on a Trailer

This post contains affiliate links.

I wanted to show you thisĀ 165 square foot tiny house on a trailer that was built using slightly modified Tumbleweed Fencl plans. It has that rustic look to it that I personally love and the pictures below speak for themselves.

The interior is beautiful and features high quality home style cabinetry with a spacious kitchen/bathroom for such a tiny home. A design like this is perfect for those of you who prefer that your tiny house feels like a home over the futuristic overly-modern style like this.

I think you’ll get a better idea of what I mean once you go inside below:

Impressive Kitchen Area with Sleeping Loft Above

I love the exposed beams and the lighting that’s built right into the ceiling.

Below you can see the tiny little dining set up for two. I love the look of the steel table in wood interior, how about you?

Another angle of the kitchen below. For a tiny house, I’d say this is a great kitchen.

Seems like in this model they chose an RV style flush toilet.

This tiny house also has a full sized shower which we don’t have photos of to share with you but you can see the floor plan below:

The “dining” area is way too cozy!

      David –
The dining/seating area is indeed cozy! But, if you look closely, the tabletop can be placed on the lower set of rails – and with the custom seat cushion – it becomes the perfect spot to curl up and read a book or simply gaze upon the landscape.

I guess a blatant copy of Jay’s Tumbleweed Fencl now qualifies as some other companies ” Loft Design Floor Plan by Open Trail Homes”
They should give him credit where credit is due and simply say they rearranged the furniture and changed the name.

      Robert –
We did not try to hide that this is indeed a modified Tumbleweed Fencl – as it states in the beginning of the article. We started off using their plans but made a few major changes that fit our situation better and ended up creating our own set of plans. If you check our website out, you’ll see that we have a different unit that is similar to the Fencl (but not quite as close as this model). Thanks for your comment.

      Robert,

I am assuming you did not actually read the description. It mentions Jay’s Fencle design in 2 separate locations. The “credit where credit is due” is there.

credit where credit is due and simply say they rearranged the furniture and changed the name.
I saw the mention of the Fencle, however it still is just a fencle with minor modifications. Imitation is still the sincerest form of flattery.
BTW it is Alex that gives the nod to Jay’s design, Blue sky merely mentions they took ideas off the internet. That is far from giving credit where credit is due.

This tiny house is beautiful….Our problem is CLOTHING and or the storage of it. I am not willing to give up winter, down, expensive clothing: as we age ….these will be very necessary. I remember my father as he got older was always turning the thermostat up higher….Older humans and dogs need more warmth! Why not 2 ft wider? Is there a code problem with that? Could we enter an outside door of this 2ft wider space to come into a long closet/storage area. Say, back alongside the bathroom area?
My husband is ill again now; staring chemo and I would love to be in a little snug house to cuddle up with him and our dog. Warm, secure and beating this SOB called cancer. I think we love ‘tiny houses’ because they are perfect & give us hope in an imperfect world.

      Hi Carrie!

Thank you for your compliments! While clothing storage can be an issue, our tiny house has some of the largest clothing storage options out there. There are two HUGE drawers and a hanging closet area for this reason.

As far as building it 2′ wider – it is definitely a possibility and the suggestions you’ve made to rearrange things make sense as well. This house would definitely keep you and your husband warm and cozy with very little heat – another great advfantage of tiny homes!

We wish you and your husband the best of luck in your battle and are inspired to see that you draw inspiration from our work. God Bless!

It is at the width it is so it can be street legal without having a special permit. It is considered an RV. If it was going to be put in one spot then it could definitely be widened. Open Trail Homes has created a layout that has a queen on the main floor.

    Hey-
Sorry to be such a newbie- but I am trying to figure out exactly which model trailer this house is built on? I keep Google-ing 8 x 18 trailers, and can’t discern much.
    Thanks!

Tumbleweed tiny homes has the specs of the needed trailers and any good trailer builder can build to their design. They also sell purpose built units for a fair price.Shopping around can save a bunch, but make sure it meets the needs of mounting a tiny house. Dee Williams book “Go House Go” also has great ideas.

I’m having trouble with this 8ft 6in max width when about every camper trailer made seems to be 10 ft wide.
Just what regulating or government body would be involved if a tiny home was built ten feet wide.
Sure, most trailers aren’t that wide, but the building could extend past the frame a couple of feet without any real problem.

I just purchased a Trailer for “Tumbelweed” I thought I purchased the 8 feet wide by 20 feet long, but when I got the invoice it says it’s (7 1/2 ft. by 20 feet long) Will I still be able to built it to fit at least 8 feet wide? Yes I did consult the company and they said it’s still possible but how? I haven’t started the built yet but I am not far off, It will be by the end of this month. Anyone out there that could help out? I greatly appreciate any information. And I plan on having the kitchen at one end, the other the bathroom which will be a bit larger then the normal “Tiny Homes” I want mine to be at least 5 feet long and of course the either 8 feet wide or 7 1/2 wide, to have a walk in bath with glass door, and at the other end a long shelf with a top sink and next to it at the bottom half, a washing machine, and pocket door entrance as to not take up space. It will have 2 lofts and the kitchen will be L shape to allow at the back or rather back right side real stairs that lead to the loft upstairs. and the main entrance will be with “French Doors” I want the house to be as open as possible so that it won’t feel so closed in
    Thanks JP
