Callie’s Coop: A 5th Graders Solar-Powered Tiny Shelter

This post contains affiliate links.

This is Callie’s Coop, a solar-powered tiny house homeless shelter designed by a 5th grader — that cost a whole $10 to build.

Callie designed this micro pod for a school project, and I’ve never seen a 5th grader with so much poise describing her brilliant creation. It includes everything from a solar oven to a rainwater catchment system to a composting toilet. And by using reclaimed materials, she kept the cost down to a meager $10 bill. Now that’s impressive!

She’s just proof that you’re never too young to start changing the world. Go Callie! (And big thanks to RelaxShacks for this video).

Nicely done and presented, but I don’t believe the $10.

I mean, if her father likes projects, I completely believe it. She said it was stuff he had left over. My dad is a Craigslist junkie, and I guarantee we could have made that out of stuff in his basement haha.

That was UNBELIEVABLE. This young lady has a bed, toilet, water and cooking all laid out — including thinking about insulation, heating and cooling. For a 5th grader to even understand the concept of all those things being necessities is already amazing, but to be able to incorporate them into this micro-design is quite impressive.

Her tiny home is really impressive and well thought out! Also amazing use of recycled material. I see several ideas that could be used in other THOWs.
Of course being a fully grown adult, I would need one a bit bigger. A thought as well is if her design could be mounted on a small trailer and towed behind a motorcycle or small car? Any how I was really impressed with it! Keep on building Callie!
