Breathtaking Tiny Getaway from Handcrafted Movement

This post contains affiliate links.

This is the Tiny Getaway, the latest from Handcrafted Movement, who brought us the Urban Craftsman that we all loved.

It sports a very similar layout to the Craftsman, but has a bright cottage-like interior that I just adore.

Plus the builder managed to pack in just about everything you could want: A couch that turns into a bed, a spacious kitchen, a built-in desk, a roomy and bright loft bedroom, and a large bathroom featuring a washer/dryer combo unit. There’s even space for hanging clothing! Add in a second loft and the luxurious decor choices, and this is a 10/10 in my book.

Did I mention it was for sale? Specs, price and contact info below.

I really like this wood and white color palette. Very soothing and inviting.

Well I can’t find a asking price for this house on this page, or any of the linking pages… But it would be hard to deny that a lot of hand craftsmanship went into the finishing trim, cabinets, and partial furnishings of this tiny house… It is well finished I’ll give it that, and I may gave past judgement harshly on it in past review.. It is a lovely house, and I could see if the asking price was in the mid $50,000.00 dollar range as it very pretty…!

I too have some issues with price. However the design as a whole is excellent and would work well in my system with Park Model RV’s. I particularly like how the ceiling was done with the lighting as well. Materials and basic appliances were well matched. Imagine 12′ wide and in a fixed location so all the lovely isn’t rattling around down some freeway…

Asking price is up there… $75,000. Cheap as chips. NOT! lqtm

Love the woodwork!!! Also great idea with the couch/bed, just perfect for us older folks that don’t do well with steps and still have room to move around. Great use of inches to feet. Love cubbys. Price is way out of my league tho. Thanks for sharing all your hard work!!!😁

Gorgeous! Compared with an Escape the price is justified. Typically the builders double the materials price, and so 35k for materials I can imagine it costs. Everything is high-end here. The ceiling helps air quality, very smart. I myself would have liked one or more loft windows in those squares though.

Wow… my new favorite. Now if I could commit to the $75k asking price it could be mine!

Love that huge window and comfy lounging area, also the desk at a good sized window. Out of my price range but lots of bells and whistles on this one.

I don’t see much storage. That one little hanging area, between the kitchen, and the desk…can you imagine the cooking odors?

It IS beautiful! I have never seen the white painted brick, in a tiny house, before. I am sure it is faux brick, but I sure like it! How does one stay warm upstairs, in this THOW? I see the little one, right against the huge window. Seems you would lose a lot of your heat, that way. And the one little vent, by the desk, integrated in the stairwell. Still does not seem enough, especially for Northern Winters. Where is your A/C? The stairs just are not large enough for me. Any storage that I did not see? Where do you put your broom, vacuum, ironing board, mop? Would love to see a shallow closet, somewhere near the kitchen, where you could place those tall items, like the broom etc..maybe some hanging room, also..for us ladies long dresses.

Again, though, it is a beautiful THOW!

I would eliminate the window and desk under the stairs, add some storage inside some of the stairs and a closet where the desk is now. Other than that this home is lovely!

And I was being generous…! I am sorry, I thought it to be anyway.. I’m shocked at such a price, as it is no Frank Lloyd Wright either…

Never a fan of the shed roof, this is none-the-less compelling and elegant.
    Well done guys!

Meantime regarding that cost of $75K — it’s all relative, isn’t it? Some bespoke kitchens in fine houses cost that.

I’m assuming that people who know how to build their own TH can see ways to get around the costs for a lot less. But for the rest of us who have no skills, no tools, no time and no place to conduct such a project, investing half that in quality materials alone and a trailer represents a big gamble that might not work out.

For those who can, I salute you. Do I want to gamble on building a house I seriously contemplate living in full-time, in a mountain climate?

I think not. When I do it, I will want to get on with the business of living.

With prices for a new Airstream luxury model of comparable size running in the thin air anwhere from $90K to $150K (intended for travel and part-time living) $70K appears to be relatively competitive for a “real” house.

Thanks for sharing – and to everyone for their comments. The questions raised are really valuable. I can’t stop myself from chiming in yet again. I find the endless variations on the Tiny House Theme really fascinating.

    This is a beautiful project.

Totally agree, Annette. My parents are incredibly handy people and they have a gorgeous home at half the cost (or more!) of a traditionally built one because they look for deals and DIY and aren’t afraid of tools. But when they go to sell their home, I’m sure they will get that sweat equity back because they spent time and effort making a great house! Same with tiny homes. You pay more for other people’s skills, and it’s often VERY worth it!

Curious where the refrig. is at. Well built but like a previous post mentioned where to you keep vacuum, ironing board etc.

    • Natalie C. McKee
      March 13, 2017, 9:52 am

Hmm I’d think under the counter? Not sure though! And the ironing board, I’d get one to hook over the bathroom door. And I’d get a little vacuum you could either leave in the loft or tucked in the bathroom someplace. When you go tiny, you just have to make do haha.

Beautiful build…and price is probably less than double the materials. I think the ceiling is my favorite along with the wood that they used for most of the surfaces. Whomever buys this home is going to be very happy. I’m sad that it’s not me.

That’s what I’m talking about…the light tones inside a tiny house.
What else I noticed was how light all the wood workings are.
I really enjoyed the viewings and I know I would enjoy living in
such a house to make a home like this one.
    Nicely done

I don’t get the prices myself, If one can’t build a tiny house then go to home depot and pick up a shed for 2 to 5,000 then finish the inside yourself total cost around 8 to 10 thousand and you got it the way you want it. Myself I would build from scratch using my own blue prints that I designed in fact I’m working on a plan to build about 50 tiny home’s for the homeless now that should be cheep because most items and wood should be donated.

love this. Quality build & thoughtful design. Have one problem with design in tiny houses when bathroom is next to kitchen. By moving toilet to sink location and having small sink, the bathroom wall and door can be installed. Place medicine cabinet over toilet. To right of bathroom door, place grooming/makeup stored in medicine cabinet. Build closet in toilet’s original placement with w/d across and additional door between that area and kitchen.

Moving entry door across from ref would allow addl chair across from sofa. Finally, one additional goal for those in cold winter locations is having an entry large enough to enter and store snowy boots.

Omitted this—To right of bathroom door, place hinged light weight counter attached to the wall that can be lowered when using the sink, on which to place your grooming/makeup items store in medicine cabinet.
