Very nicely done!! Love the open shelving in the kitchen, the bright blue door and the sliding door to the bathroom

Sliding doors to the bathroom are the best 🙂

My wife and I love the layout of this home. We are hopeful that San Luis Obispo County will be adopting regulations to allow tiny homes on their own property. County is moving toward this direction but not quite there yet..

A very livable tiny house design.

  • June 13, 2017, 7:37 pm

It is a beautiful house with a great layout. I can see how much more storage one could have if you just move the window in the kitchen over to the right and put in some kitchen cabinets in place of the open shelves that provide very little storage. Also I find the wood floor color very busy and could provide a better look if the floor was lighter and more uniform.

There’s a little space under the stairs, you could possibly fit a folding table and some extra stackable seats there instead of that cushion cube thingy they have in the photo there… May make it look more cluttered and make it hard to access that shelving space in the back of that little space, though…

Well laid out, great use of natural light/windows and beautifully done. This feels very spacious and looks like it gives people some private spaces.

Yes! And private spaces can be key if you are living with a family 🙂

Great design, but how do you access the loft over the bathroom? Maybe move the door to the right and have ladder-steps in that area?

    • Natalie C. McKee
      June 14, 2017, 1:31 pm

Good question, Frank! I missed that. Maybe there is a detached ladder that’s not shown.

        June 15, 2017, 3:44 am

It’s in the closet, right next to the lower storage on the right side… You can just make it out in the photo of the closet they have on their site, along with the top peaking out from the photo taken from the second loft showing the edge of the loft…

It’s one of those extending ladders that shrinks down to a short length… Not very ideal for regular use but it certainly takes up very little space when stored away and can work in a pinch…

Btw, this technically has 4 beds as the couch also converts into a bed and is probably why they didn’t put in a bigger table as they couldn’t block the bed and the remaining space would be in the way of accessing the closet and bathroom, as well as the front door…

They could have worked around it if they raised the couch a few inches and then put a fold flat table that can slide under there and just adjusted the supports for the bed mode… May even have made the placement of the TV a little easier to watch as it’s a bit high…

This is a very nice home, however, how does one even begin to change sheets on the bed that is slid in between the walls? I’m not sure I understand why a bed that large would be put into a room where there the door is blocked, and getting around the bed is impossible. As well, it doesn’t like one bit of furniture would fit. Is this just a temporary bed? Otherwise, I really like this home.

Liz, that’s the bedroom behind the kitchen and it’s a pocket door… So it slides out of the way.

It’s only a 7.5’x5 space, with the main loft bed above it and the kitchen that’s 7.5’x12’… So it’s not really a big bed as it’s the main loft bed that’s King size…

The second loft is 7.5’x4′ and can only accommodate a twin bed, for example…

Meaning the main loft is the main sleeping area and the other two are secondary, along with the couch that can convert into a bed as well and still provides storage…

They basically squeezed the bedroom in there as a bonus space. So that means you’d have to fix the bed while on it… But it’s basically a mattress on the floor, and you have standing height there, so you can always just flip the bed on its side to change the sheets and have room to move around it…

So options aren’t as limited as in the lofts where you don’t have enough room to stand and thus need the space to move around the bed then…

I think it’s just to allow some sleeping downstairs. It’s tricky to fit that space into tiny homes, but people really want it! Maybe better than a loft? Maybe not!

Great Job James D, you commented on one we built with metal and was very thoughtful and passionate when you were replying to a critic that appeared to be sitting on his couch while we been grinding building these tiny homes. I don’t think people have a clue as to the systematic process of completing one and the 100’s if not thousand labor hours.

I like that you put bedrooms on ground level, along with the loft, this give a broader range of buyers with this design.

You’re welcome Chris Guidry, I for one certainly appreciate how much work is involved and the many intricacies of the design considerations and trade offs involved in the process…

However, I’m sorry if I gave the wrong impression somehow but I did not design or build this Tiny House and so deserve no credit for it… That actually goes to Mark and Emily Mitchell that established and run Mini Mansions Tiny Home Builders LLC…

I was just already aware of this model from back in May when they originally released the video tour, including the details they highlighted on their website, and seemed to notice more details from the photos than the other commentators…

It’s a beautiful house. But I don’t understand what all these tiny homes have against stoves. If you sent a pull off piece of counter it takes up less counter space than a little cooktop.

I love these tiny homes, but what I don’t love are the restrictions people have when trying to live in them. What’s the point on spending all this money to build a gorgeous living space when we’re not “allowed” to use them as our own? I guess everything in this life is dirty money, I just watched Thrive the movie and it all makes sense.

It is really nice and the literally bed room is fantastic, however only having an induction plate and a small refrigerator seems odd with 2 lofts and the small bedroom. Also I would prefer kitchen cabinets over a very few open shelves. Storage stairs would make more sense than the current style as imho the space under the stairs is mostly wasted and somewhat inaccessible. The finishes are nice and the sliding door for the bathroom is extremely practical.

This is a lovely design, even including a washer dryer combo, but if I planned to do laundry in my tiny home I would also plan to cook there on something more than a little hot plate. There is a nice refrigerator, but why store the food if there is no place to cook it? With three bed rooms there might be quite a few mouths to feed. I would try to squeeze a compact stove in there somewhere. You can’t eat out every night.

I really like the interior walls. They are pretty unique. Is it a T111 siding? Does it have a stain on it and if so, what color?
    Thank you for your response.
