667 Sq. Ft. Cabin in the Forest

Using inspiration from a pre-existing 1920s cottage, Architects of Atelier ST designed and built this small cabin south of Berlin, Germany. They use it as a weekend getaway for their own family and friends.

Although the exterior of this wooden cottage is dark the interior is bright and open.

The home has a front door entry that opens up through a hallway lined with pine storage cabinets. Which leads to a brightly white painted two story open living space. The glass wall on the rear of the cabin provides more than plenty of natural light for the weekend retreat.

The kitchen and bathroom are located at the front corners of the home on either side of the hallway. I really love the red mosaic tiled shower. Be sure to check that out. Enjoy the photos below.

Wow. Very interesting choices. Not necessarily something I’d want to live in design-wise but stunning nonetheless. I love how you can tell that this is the home of people who truly are incredible at what they do.

What a lovely space. The shower is so beautiful – a piece of art.

The pine feels unfinished to me but to each their own. It would be interesting to see the floor plan to see where all that storage fits in.

Now this is my “cup of tea”! I love the wall of glass at the back! I also love the look on the inside. It looks Scandinavian!

The animals you see are stuffed, not alive. Merely props.

Wonderful kitchen, but I would need window coverings for that huge all-exposing window.

Add some yellow, green, red, gray and brown tapestries and decor and it will warm this place up very nicely.

Love the setting of this tiny home. The white interior with the natural pine sets it off beautifully. Is that a real fawn, or a lawn ornament?

Love the random animals photoshopped in there 🙂

Really nice place. Thanks for sharing!

    I’m “stealing” the shower layout

Another wonderful white with wood and lots of drawers around.
I’m so impressed with these small homes that each have charm of their own. I wouldn’t want red shower tile, but I would want the sink basin and long, wood counter alongside it. Sweet!

    Liz,
I think the animals have all been to the taxidermist.

Kewl shower. But what I want to know is, does Bambi come with the house?

  • May 27, 2015, 4:59 pm

WOW, those sliding glass doors are ENORMOUS! Where does one go to get those, I wonder! Not a bad concept… Zowie Shower!

Not sure about the deer but i do believe those other animals in the winter scene are stuffed (taxidermy). a tad creepy for me.
    interesting house design

Different house. Inventive use of space. But I find it cold!
Especially when filled with dead, stuffed, animals:( Gross!

I agree with Catherine. The display of dead animals makes viewing the house design difficult – at least for me.

Maybe it’s just hand-me-down paranoia from my mom, but huge wall-encompassing windows like that always make me wonder who might be looking IN.

Would love to see a floor plan on this one to see how it all flows together.

So lovely. Aren’t the tiny drawers in the kitchen smart?! Love the interior.

While I did like the storage drawers in the kitchen area over what looks like the cooking area. It was very hard to me to view the house for it aesthetics when I see all the animals who died so that someone could use them as decorations.

Wow! Although I have always favored more traditional design, I have grown to love the simpler modern approach especially with vast expanses of glass. Perhaps it is the melding of indoor and outdoor, allowing one to be in nature while also being cocooned. I could easily live in this home if it’s location were totally private.

I would like to see a floor plan as well. I do think all that glass might make it cold….I know my windows are freezing in the winter! As far as the shower goes….each to their own.

I agree with Emily c. The dead animals did me in. I was hoping, as another stated, they were done with photoshop. I really liked the brightness of the house but please photoshop those animals out!
