This should be a full-time home not an Air BNB rental!

I wonder if communities would consider establishing areas with 400-600 sf homes. Small cottages on permanent foundations.

Fairly unlikely in major urban areas given the cost of land and the trend towards large scale densification. Free standing individual dwellings are a dying breed in many big cities. The further out you go the more possible it becomes though.

Of course there are always infill opportunities in older single family areas. Laneway and coach houses or smaller apartments in large houses.

Ooooh, soon as I saw the cottage exterior photo I just swooned. Such a sweet feel. Windows in important places like over the kitchen sink and in the bathroom. Exit to the back yard through the laundry room, with a sink. Love the back door screen. It simply glows with the pop of color sofa!
    Puuurrrrfect.

and the bath room, really more of a bath lobby, open to the kitchen, back door….not much of a room…not much privacy.

Just a question about the 500 Sq. Ft. Cottage in Toronto. Could you tell me the measurements of this cottage? I’m wanting to build something on this order with a ground floor bedroom, no loft, and I really love this floor plan. Thank you very much.

    In Toronto…so…2 million? 😉

Now this, for the most part, is intelligent design. Affordable small houses of this order are what’s needed in today’s economy and its brutal realities. Zoning laws need to be changed and FAST to allow dwellings like this to be built. Politicians who don’t agree should be given the boot. Things have got to change!

Thanks for adding something about Toronto. Ya a million at least. Oh…Toronto is my home town so I think I should mention that it is a great city to visit if anyone is interested. Clean, safe, tons of stuff to do.

Very nice. Living small on a slightly larger scale. Toronto is (mostly!) a nice place.
Governments in general are not pleased with small houses for two reasons. First, the money! Besides location, houses are oft times taxed on square footage. Do the math. The wine-n-dine lobbyists also have a vested interest in making sure that their campaign donations pay dividends by making sure politicians remove the choice of building for less house for less money. Secondly (and more to the point) is control. In today’s twisted reality, the Progressives in power (BOTH red and blue states) want to rule over every aspect of your life, because they believe they know what is best for you. In their belief system, you could not possibly be happy in a small house. Why? Because you are not enlightened as are they. In their world view your happiness can only be reached by paying too much money for a house you can not afford and know you do not need. Welcome to Progressivism.

This house is gorgeous. I would love to have one for myself. Who built it and for how much?
