Wow! I can only imagine being able to live in a beach home this expensive let alone owning it as a second home!

That’s not t o say that I can’t peruse the pictures for good ideas that can be used in any small home. I like the Windows on either side of the bedroom. I bet you get some amazing ocean breezes. Imagine waking up to that.

This is a great design for such a picturesque view. I keep seeing all of these wonderful small homes and cabins, but cannot find where to purchase the architectural designs. My husband and I are looking to build a small home about this size, but building design plans are scarce. If anyone can give me good leads on finding them, it would be great!

        Hi, Curly:

You might consider looking at the Eco-Dome design at CalEarth:
        http://calearth.org/building-designs/eco-dome.html

You could adapt the basic design to a different building method if you wanted to. You might also look at the vaulted designs for ideas.

Now where did I put that extra $400,000? I know what I want to spend it on.

Have you tried looking under your mattress? Maybe you hid it in the cookie tin? Suitcase under the bed? Gosh, I wish you luck finding that ever elusive $400,000… heck, I’d be grateful to find the $5 I lost the other day… lqtm

Found it! Not the $400,000 but your lost $5. It was with my lost $2.

Love the view, the house, and the layout, except for the eyesore in the kitchen…the refrigerator. It is much too large for the space. If it were my house, I would have gotten a counter depth refrigerator which would require removal of the above cabinet. The price is also a bit much, even for that view.

I know… isn’t it puzzling how so many people design a house, or have it designed for them, and the flipping refrigerator sticks out further than the cabinetry? Why. Do. They. Do. That…?

Wow if we could only get that package and price here in Southern California !! That’d be about $1.2 million here ha So beautiful !

It’s true the land alone I want to buy for my smaller house is $325k and that’s about 2.5 acres. No house just land and I figure my small, not tiny house, at an 800 square footprint is about $200k that’s cheap in my neck of the woods when my surrounding neighbors are $1.5 million and up. I’d do almost anything not to have an HOA and be able to have farm animals on my property ??

No HOA. Animals, yes. Trees and trails and undulating hills; yes. Beautiful views. Low taxes, no state income tax, business friendly republican government. Land for $1500 to $5000 per acre.
          Simple, move to Tennessee.

Lovely home for the tall, well-off and able-bodied! As a short person, I wouldn’t be able to reach that microwave or any of those upper shelves at all, and as a person inclined to dizziness, I wouldn’t want to be climbing on & off ladders to use the kitchen. Lots of steps involved, too. But, as others have said, it’s beautiful and the view is awesome. I’d also have concerns about what will happen with rising ocean levels in the next few years…

    • Denise
      August 6, 2015, 9:10 am

Not to worry, the ocean levels around the San Juan Islands have not risen in centuries. šŸ™‚

      • Comet
        September 17, 2015, 7:22 pm

Sadly what is happening now is NOT what has happened in the past several recorded centuries or even what is recorded in the geological “records”. It is an unprecedented rise in all sea levels and is making water in Florida and other coastal areas undrinkable and has caused “ground water”–NOT fresh water under the ground–levels to rise also.

The evidence of sea ice melting–and where is that trapped for millenia water going to GO to?—is indisputable no matter what “cause” you want to pin on it. This particular house might be fine for a while as it sits somewhat above sea level but what about the beach area—and the OTHER houses in the area? The sea ice is melting faster than any one proposed it might.

Gee I have a house with an amazing view of the Green Mountains of Vermont that I would like to sell–and in a few years it could be Ocean Front Property!

Still somewhat affordable property here—of course it depends on how much land and the structures already ON it–but my acre and modest house with two outbuildings is probably going to sell for around $100k. There are some houses here–that need re-hab–that sell for much less.

Land with water views here–Lake George; Lake Bomoseen; Lake Champlain–values are MUCH higher.

Oh yeah, global warming… had a look at the “real” figures on global temperatures lately? Not the ones being bandied around by the professional rent a mob crowds.

By the way, you do realise that water that is frozen is much more dense than liquid water. So, icebergs melt and become liquid and in the process take up LESS space than they did as icebergs.

Ah yes, the continual lies by the climate change a**holes.

          September 20, 2016, 12:07 am

As a teacher, I can’t let Eric’s comment slide. Ice is LESS DENSE than water which is why it FLOATS and why lakes do not freeze solid in winter. Read a science book – don’t rely on what I’m saying or anyone else online, for Pete’s sake – especially the ones who are giving YOU the climate change denials.

OMG this is beautiful. The price is actually very reasonable for oceanfront property, and I’m assuming it includes the land it’s sitting on?. Sondra is spot on about the price comparison. I grew up in So Cal and the only home you can find under $1mill is probably burning down or sliding into the blue pacific.
This little gem has some very nice amenities that really enhance the location and views like that beautiful deck, which also nicely extends the living area and looks great for entertaining. I can’t make out how one accesses the bath house (which is very nice!). Homes are always priced above the market value and no doubt buyers will come in with a lower offer. It’s easier to start high and negotiate down than the reverse. This particular little home is very special. I’d be in heaven.

I thought it was priced pretty reasonably too for what it is but I have no knowledge about the surrounding area, etc. so if anybody’s seriously interested please do your research šŸ™‚

        Hi Alex
It’s beautiful, thanks for showing even if out of reach for lots.
And by the way where’s Cahow? Any idea? Haven’t seen anything from her in ages.

I love this area of the USA. Perfect climate for me. I love every part of the Pacific ocean, including this. House is not functional. I could not climb up for bed so I would make a 10 by 10 addition for my main floor bedroom. after looking at the MLS listing information which also has a few more pictures, it appears that IF one were sleeping in the loft and needed the bath room a person would have to go down the ladder/stairs then outside to the deck, then up some steps to the “shower house”, (bath, laundry). then reverse the process and go back to bed. This is not functional. so sorry because I love the location and the concept. I have seen some small house and even tiny house plans that allow for sleeping and bathrooms on the main level.

Oh, my gosh! This is such an adorable house.
I love the bedroom although I would, too, worry about the ladder. I can imagine waking up in the morning in that space, though. Amazing breezes.
I love the kitchen. I, too, think that the frig is a big of an eyesore. If you simply do a little bump-out on the exterior wall for the refrigerator, it would look fine.
And, the bathhouse is in picture 11. It sits in front of the main house with its door open so you can see the sink. The location is a throw back to the outhouse days. lol
This house and location are just gorgeous. Thanks for the look-see, Alex, I am still drooling.

I live in the Pacific Northwest and have spent a lot of time over the years in the San Juan Islands and I can tell you, that $395,000 for this home and property is a very good price and if I had the funds, I would snap it up in a heartbeat. This is a beautiful treasure.

For all of you dissing it because the price of a tiny home should not be that expensive, remember land is worth so much more than a building and there is no way you can truly appreciate what you are getting if you are judging getting 3/4 view around and *on* some of the most beautiful beach front property in the world by the criteria of a building that can be set on any parking lot and not by water.

The crabbing, tide pools, and canoeing here, along with the amazing summers in the midst of Madrona trees, driftwood, wonderful rocks and shellfish, coupled with a journal and pen, are nothing short of phenomenal. This is a small slice of heaven. All for *only* $395,000.

With a little rejigging and the use of a folding table, I am sure a downstairs bedroom could be made. Having slipped down the steep stairs in our small house in France in May (which resulted in me taking a chunk out of my knee – I still have the scar ?), I would not be keen to use a ladder to access a bedroom…….or rather the bathroom during the night! Coming down is going to be an issue,me specially if you are carrying something – I was carrying a double duvet …it gave me a softer landing!
The plot if land is doubtless a big chunk of the cost of this property. It’s all about location! I love the garden and the views, but have no plans to move there.

Having lived in several states, I can understand how some people would find the price of this home outrageous. However, you have to take into consideration that pricing of anything varies according to your location. A home like this, on the water, is a bargain at $395,000. And it is gorgeous!

I would definitely add an extra room to this house, so that there could be a downstairs bedroom. The price for this piece of property in WA. is incredibly cheap! Something like this house would be $1 mil PLUS in CA, so this is pretty reasonable…

    Cute, and fabulous location, but….
    a) sold
    b) the bathroom is literally an outhouse
    c) a cottage with an outhouse for $400k (???)
They really could have done better with that lot,
