Quoting from the description, “lovely kitchen”? Not to me. I would replace that sink with a full size sink. I would also take out over half of the furniture. The current asking price is $650,000, way too steep for me!

Beautiful, yes, but that is NOT a tiny home price at all! I could find a 1200 sq. ft. home in other parts of California for less than $100k. As a matter of fact, I have quite a few of them saved to my Trulia board. Good luck to the seller–he’ll need it!

I lived in Santa Barbara for 15 years and this price isn’t a surprise. Nothing is affordable there. Interesting they do not mention anything about the space at the harbor where the boat is located. Those slips are hard to come by and in high demand.

Remember were talking about Santa Barbara here… $3 for a tomato, and for over a decade the occupancy rating has been over 99.7%… The boat could be a pile of logs and still go for half-a-million for the slip alone… I grew up in Indianapolis and have been living downtown Santa Barbara for over 4 years.
I pay $650/mo for a 15×15 ft studio. Back in Indy that got my a 3 bed / 2 bath house with on an acre of land. Its all about location!

OMG!! $650,000 Are they kidding me? That place (I’m sure) didn’t cost that much to build nor come any where close to the materials it took either.. Over half of a million where do they come up with such out rages figures. and why would anyone throw that kind of money away on something like that.. Don’t get me wrong . It’s a very nice house boat. and laid out very nicely..But when one stops and looks what they get for their money.. It’s all mind boggling to me anyway..

In this instance you’re paying for the location, not the house. $650,000 in Santa Barbara is actually considered cheap. Most “regular” homes (not mansions, just regular ol’ houses) routinely sell for more than $1 million in that area, which is the major reason that we left. Almost impossible to own a home in Santa Barbara unless you inherit it or make a ton of $$.

What I’d like to know is what kind of jobs people must have to afford such real estate? No one from the middle classes, that’s for sure…This is probably why the Tiny house movement has become so popular.. Imagine paying cash for a new home for 35-50 thousand, mortgage free. Living simply with only things one needs instead of stuff some want . to clutter up ones life and cause stress. to impress others.. Seems like Real estate has gone completely insane. There should be better checks and balances in place .. So everyone may get a chance for a piece of the social pie.. instead of a certain few..

In that area, it varies, but there are many people who have either inherited property and/or wealth, or are working in very lucrative fields (entertainment, law, medicine, defense, etc.) who wouldn’t bat an eye at paying that price and more. It’s so far beyond the pale for most of us everyday people, but the norm for many Santa Barbarans.

The price is ridiculous especially since the layout isn’t really anything to write home about. I don’t know about others on this site, but I am looking for a “tiny” house with a “tiny price tag” , saving money and making do is the challenge. Heck, if I had 650k I wouldn’t be worried about retirement .

This is Santa Barbara so the price is justifiable because comparable housing prices are through the roof. This is about how much you’d have to pay for a crappy 1bd condo in a “bad” area of town. Plus slips at the harbor are very limited and in high demand. This particular slip is in a great section of the harbor, too. And one other factor driving the price is that they no longer allow “houseboats” in the harbor; this one is grandfathered in.
