So what do you think of this tiny barn conversion cabin?

If you ask me, something like this is my dream home because I love the idea of a home on a foundation.

And then if you want, you can be like John and Fin, and have an additional tiny house on wheels to travel with.

Really like this one! It has so much potential for decorating. The rugs are beautiful. One thing missing for me is a wood burning stove or something similar to make it feel really cozier! Makes such a difference in a room IMHO. The spiral staircase is very beautiful!

I love this. Bot, I would have to add a ground floor bedroom and at least a 1/2 bath. Just can’t do a one bathroom house any more. I’d like a gas or wood stove also, but that is just a decorating type modification.

Floor plan is here: http://www.heritagebarns.com/showcase/guest-house/#.WFf3slPR-71. I guess you could add your bedroom and bathroom and still keep the same footprint. You would have to make the living room into a bedroom with a sofa bed or futon. To squeeze in a half bath, you could fit the half-bath to the where the staircase is, move the staircase to where the table is, and fit the table into the big kitchen. Or you could move the staircase and squeeze the half-bath onto the loft, stacking it over the current bath.

But if you really want to “add” those features, you would be expanding the house beyond small to a regular cabin. (not that regular cabins are bad)

That really looks spacious for 336 square feet!!!

      December 19, 2016, 10:17 am

To be blunt, the homeowners are lying. This house is NOT 336 sq ft, and it is not a tiny house. The first floor is 336 sq ft with a 184 sq ft loft. Since the peak of the ceiling is 21 ft and there is a real staircase, the loft should be fully counted in the square footage. So this is really a 520 sq ft house. (floor plan with measurements is on the websites.)

It seems like a lot of people *think* they want to live tiny… until they see a nice 500-600 sq ft gem that makes their hearts melt. There’s something to be said for “small” housing.

Very large layout… It is deceiving from it’s out side, which gives it a very farm like appearance as just a normal barn to store your hay, or stable your live stock… Bottom line, I wouldn’t mind someone asking me if I live in a barn, if it were mine…

There are no tiny homes in Mn. I am a disabled vet. Any foundations out there that would help sponsor building a tiny home with me? I love the one in Portland with the rustic feel. I have been moving around so much and tired of the high rents, a tiny house to call home would be perfect, and after the flood, I just need to feel safe again. Thanks if anyone has some suggestions how to get started.

This is just what I was looking for. I love the fact that I can stand up in my bedroom. I am not a fan of the ladders and lack of head room in the loft of most tiny houses. This works great. I must keep my eyes open for property with a barn on it.

I do believe that I will be replicating this little gem in the near future. Such a large, spacious area from such a small space. Less than $20,000 from my estimates.

There’s no way this home is 336 sq. ft. Mine and my husband’s apartment is 520 sq ft, and our space is smaller than the first floor of this cabin. We can’t even have a table, and there’s no way we could fit two twin beds so far apart. Additionally, our bathroom is half the size.

It is a timber frame; gota love love love it. Outstanding home.

  • April 14, 2018, 10:52 am

My first guess would be that the frame is non structural and it is either enclosed with sips or has a 2x frame around it.

I am not allowed to build a tiny home on my property because of zoning — would i be allowed to build this structure as a SHED and get away with it? what makes something a luxury shed vs. a tiny home? The bathroom? I mean even my neighbor’s shed has electricity.
