I’ve been by this cottage while on vacation before. It is truly quaint, in a small town having perhaps the most character of all along the Washington coast. Price is not bad for the setting. God forbid, though, someone with deep pockets comes along to demolish it, erecting a McMansion in its stead. That would be a blight in this little beach enclave of rustic, small structures. Hope a tiny house lover nabs it!

I don’t think there is much chance of a McMansion being built on this. It’s only (0.12) one tenth of an acre of land, and the scientists are saying that by 2050, the ocean is going to rise by 3 feet, so you can shave 3 feet off this land in the coming future. Cute though it be, it certainly isn’t worth nearly 300K. I own 1800 sf on a full quarter acre. The property tax on this is 3X what I pay in sunny Florida.

As cute as this is, I seriously doubt you could resell it and recoup your investment. Only someone with deep pockets looking for a writer’s/artist’s retreat/studio could sanely take this on. I’d be willing to bet that there aren’t any jobs around there, either.

Places like this are rarely about the resell. They’re about finally finding peace of mind. .12 acre = 5232 sq.ft.. If truly square in shape, it would be approx. 72 1/3 feet on each side. That’s not bad, considering the house in located in a community. Most would just call it a “lot”.
Places like this really speak to me and why I frequent Tiny House Talk. They have an “honesty” to them and are only “modern” enough to make life comfortable.
        Love, Love, Love this place.

I’d have trouble finding peace of mind worrying about those property taxes and no jobs in town.

      Patrick,
It seems your wishes have been granted.
The house sold in 2016 and the owner has kept it as is.

If I purchase a tiny house I would think the price tag would be relatively small in comparison to a large house. I cannot see where that price could ever be justified. It is too the point if I bought it I would be considered by everyone, myself included that I was foolish.

At $280,000 doesn’t that kind of defeat the whole tiny house philosophy? I thought one of the main tenets of tiny house living is to be mortgage free. I can appreciate that the location is driving the price, but still . . .

Pretty house, a little pricey… How much land or lot is included? That could be a part of the price. View of the beach is fantastic.

The acreage is (0.12), roughly one tenth of an acre, and I don’t know if this includes access/right of way to the beach, either.

At that price, I’d want to include either own all the way to the beach or at least a pathway for the residents to get to the beach. What a view to not be able to access that beach! Beautiful little house but way expensive. Land in the Ozarks is nowhere near that costly, plus is further inland so less flood chances. I’d sell a few acres far cheaper than that but would have to bring your own THOW.

If you have acreage that you wouldn’t mind sharing, would you ever consider opening you own THOW Village? The movement is desperate for places for people to live and if you are willing to host such an undertaking, you could advertise it in the TH Classifieds.

You could make your village all off the grid (OTG) or have each tenant pay a fair share to have the utilities run in. By any standards, that would be a welcome bargain.

I’m hoping that eventually, each state will have a THOW representative that people can contact for information about costs and availability in each state or area. We really need more THOW villages and a network to assist people to get settled.

Thank you for your information. You seem like a really nice person and a great neighbor to have. And thank you for your spirit of solidarity; it’s really wonderful 😀

It’s 17.9 acres 11 miles west of Ava, MO in a little community called Goodhope. OK to live in campers or tiny houses. One neighbor lives in a building like a yard barn. These can be bought a couple of places in Ava. There’s a lumber mill a couple miles away where planks could be bought. Farm & field type views instead of beach or river but it doesn’t have the flood issues either. I’d probably have to fix in electricity & toilet/shower facilities. Still, I think it could be done for considerably cheaper than $200,000.

This is very cute but definitely o/o my price range sadly.

Where’s Cahow? I haven’t seen any comments recently from her and I think she is familiar with this area.

A short walk to the beach, but no stroll at all to experience the massive tsunami that will arrive with the predicted Cascadia subduction zone quake.

Tiny house + Huge price = Total joke.

Is that price a typo? That. Is. Crazy. I agree with the poster who said it was a joke. No land, squished against ur neighbors. Freezing ur butt off in the winter. What is that $1000 per sq. ft.? Ocean view or not, no way!

I found a house in Punta Chivato (Baja, Mexico) on the ocean for $120k, didn’t look this good as this house, so I get the price being on the ocean, but I hope it get’s sunny there, would be a deal breaker for most. Small cottage on the ocean in Laguna Beach ?? $1-3 million, so there you go.

This house is about as close to the beach as you can get in Washington. It’s in an area called Moclips which is north of Ocean Shores and has the smallest dunes in that area. This house has direct access to the beach and ocean. I’ve stayed at a couple different rentals in the area and love it there. Would need to win the lottery to buy this little property though!

Cozy, charming, quaint and comfortable. Doesn’t get that cold, Becky. Views don’t get better. Price doesn’t bother me for oceanfront- since I’m not buying it. But some are able and willing to pay for poetic experience. The tsunami will take out many miles inland, so I wouldn’t worry any more for the first few feet. I guess one would be buying the right to live in the lovely community. Make an offer, who knows… Again, affordability is not crucial to everyone desiring to live in small efficient (adorable) spaces.

If the “Big One” hits, this cute overpriced cottage will be a pile of driftwood washed away by the tsunami. 🙁 Even a moderate global-warming sea-level rise will put it in danger of flooding during winter storms. Not surprised this has been on the market since 2013, and has dropped from nearly $300k to $254k.

Price aside, this beachfront cottage is charming as all-get-out. I value this posting for the photographs and the inspiration they provide. For 10% of the asking price, you could build a replica of this quaint hovel somewhere else. You just won’t get the ocean view and beach access, which are the prime factors behind the parcel’s inflated price tag. I won’t be buying the place, but I sure appreciate the visual tour!
