the above lady states that she is Columbian. Her parents left them a small ranch in La Sierra Nevada of Santa Maria. She would love to have a little house like this for her vacations. She loves this type of house, so simple yet it has all the comforts of home.

Seems like TINY HOUSES are popular everywhere.

Waaaay too cluttered for my taste, but love all the storage space & two staircases!

If you look on the link to the website, you can see what it looked like before any of the decorations were added so you can see the possibilities for your own decorating style.

I don’t know if we can put links here but look in the middle of this page to see the empty house.

The link is much more informative than these pictures. Mostly what I see here is decorations. There I see the actual rooms. Thanks for the referral. I like it.

I agree, the decoration is very specific. I prefer smooth spaces with less eye distraction, especially in small areas. For me this is a big winner for STAIRS and headroom in the lofts. I like the pull-out table and chairs. I’d like to see more of that with kitchens: something that expands for meal prep, but doesn’t take major space when it’s not in use.

Could NOT agree more (on both the criticism and the praise).

For me, this is absolute confirmation that you have to scale down your desire to decorate at the same time you scale down your house. Some of this stuff would be tolerable with enough white space between the decorations, but here it just reaches critical mass and explodes.

It’s just a matter of taste, isn’t it? All you can really say about someone else’s choices is that you would have made different ones. Neither better nor worse, just different.

This is the most liked one (small tiny home) that I’ve seen! The decor is just right. Very nice!! Thanks for showing it! I’m really impressed! 🙂

Not cluttered but filled with personality 🙂 Anyone can redo that 🙂 Its amazing lovely liveable – perhaps I would take out the tub — my ass won’t fit in it anyway and do a walk in shower yes yes I think that would work – I really like it — including the personality 🙂

    December 28, 2014, 12:17 pm

I love the layout and the space. Great idea having the staircases to each loft, not wasted space at all because of all the storage underneath the steps. While I don’t care for the furnishings and decor, nor all the colors, I think it is really beautiful for someone who does. I would furnish it differently and more sparsely, and I think it would seem much more spacious. While I can’t do ladders, I could easily deal with the stairs. Also love the headroom in the loft. I could live in this house very easily and comfortably.

      April 16, 2015, 3:01 pm

I love this tiny house as well, and one of the reasons is because of the headroom in the lofts making them feel less claustrophobic. Unfortunately, I’m much taller than 5’0″, so I’d have to have the space beneath the lofts taller.

I love this house! It’s exactly what a home should be. It should reflect your personality, and be your sanctuary. It’s beautiful! Of all of the tiny houses I have seen, this is my favorite and has inspired me to build my own. Thank you for sharing.

The litter box is hidden by a “privacy curtain” and is located under the stairs leading to the loft.

OMGosh I SO love the stairs with storage underneath. And the kitchen I so love as well. This IS a tiny house someone like me in their sixties could love living in. Love how she decorated to suit herself. While I would be more Danish/Swedish modern. Just love love love the stairs to the lofts!!

This is the first time I’ve left a comment on this website, but I just saw a house that really talks to me. I’ve been trying to sketch out my own design and so far nothing is clicking until now. The Lilypad is just AWESOME! I love that arched roof. The stairs actually look like they belong there. I keep thinking I need a living room with the main entrance leading off from it. This house proves that’s not so. What a great, great job!!! Oh, where’s the litter boxes?

I read her blog, the litter box hides under one of the stairs. My tiny house would so look like this too. I am a color crazy.

    Beautiful!
It looks to be well suited for more off-grid than some houses with the composting toilet and the alcohol cook top. Not quite sure but I think that Dickinson is actually a wood heater, so less (or none) propane being used.

    Well thought out, I think.

    • February 18, 2015, 10:27 pm

Hi Daniel, thank you so much for your comments. The Dickinson stove is a small wood burning heater rather than propane. We have just installed our solar array and there is a full list of our eco-friendly features if you’re interested: http://www.lilypadplanet.com/gentle-living.html

Charming decor and wonderful colors! I love the whole eclectic/gypsy/bohemian feel. I just don’t see anyplace for people to sit or gather. The slide out table is clever but there seems to be no actual living space. Maybe on loft could be purposed for this?

    • Lisa E.

The second loft, over the kitchen, is set up as an entertaining area with a Moroccan sofa and other low seating.

I would probably use a shed roof to save on time and math (I hate math!) and use a safer roof than copper for drinking water… other than that, such a well thought out TH, I love it!

    January 2, 2015, 7:10 pm

This is truly wonderful. Some time ago I had plans to do a roofline like this one and then dismissed it – its back on the agenda. I had also considered using a loft as a sitting room rather than a bedroom but dismissed it – its back on the agende. It is not my style but I do truly love the decore, it is just cozy and delightful and charming and together and the cats look more than content. Fabulous job. Fabulous.

The best part of this tiny house is…the CATS!!! 🙂

Aside from those fantastic cats, this is nicely, beautifully, decorated and doesn’t give me the impression of a tiny house at all. Very clever to think outside the box and put a table slide in where the stairs are.

The only changes I would make would be to the light fixture over the bed and the tile in the shower. I feel the light fixture is too modern for the Moroccan decor, and the subway tile doesn’t reflect that either. I love the floor cushions and would like to know where they can be purchased.

    January 20, 2015, 5:42 pm

That’s so cool! I’ve been working on my own tiny house plans and this is very similar to what I came up with separately – but I didn’t think of using the stairs in such a way! There is a ton of storage space in there. Very ingenious…

Usually I far prefer a clean neutral color palette in small spaces.
The East India textiles, woods, mirrors, accessories, carpets and stair pads, stencils and even Anita’s custom welcome mat are so refreshingly different, I had to view everything repeatedly. So much love of the soul couldn’t better be expressed. Namaste.

Oh ok. Thank you for pointing out the study area. Now I see that, and a sitting area/guest room above it. I didn’t notice it either because I too was distracted by the decor, but in a different way. I find this visually stunning and speechless (figuratively) at the way all of these gorgeous, varying colors and textures were brought together to complement one another in a seamless way and in fact don’t appear to clutter or diminish the space at all. I too sew and craft primarily in textiles and as such, find this a delicious feast for the eyes. Stunning.

Hey anyone know how well that stove works? Looks like the Newport solid fuel heater sold my dickinson marine. Also whats the fuel consumption of these things as far as hardwood goes? I am in the planning stages of my place and I am trying to figure out if its possible to heat a place in the colder northern Illinois climates without using some form of a propane stove. I also don’t want to use a small space heater because it would run through solar juice. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    • Rob
      April 16, 2015, 9:59 pm

I had a Dickinson solid fuel heater on a boat. You will average about a three hour burn time which means getting up during the night to stoke it. It does not take much to fill it. The hard part is finding fuel small enough to fit in the firebox. It kept the saloon of a 28 foot uninsulated boat moderately warm down to about 36 degrees but supplemental heat was needed for colder nights. Great ambiance though. I went to propane eventually. Please, TH builders, place your Dickinson stoves as low to the floor as possible to reduce stratification.

    • 2otaku

    February 18, 2015, 2:40 pm

This is obviously a very popular THOW just from all of the posts here. I, too, love this TH and think of it more as a tiny palace; gorgeous!

I call this style of THOW a “Flat Back Tiny House”. I love the center entrance that allows for the ends of the interior to be fully used side to side. I love the airiness of the whole design. I’ve seen some designs that make me very aware of the box one is in, but this design never gives the feeling that the walls are closing in.

Other wonderful things are (1) the builder, Walter Quade of “Small Home Oregon”, is an eco-builder (no poisons in your walls) which is a goal of the Tiny House Movement, and (2) these Flat Back THOW’s are affordably priced for modest budgets and cost minded shoppers. 🙂

This Tiny House gets five gold stars!!!

    February 19, 2015, 1:23 am

I adore this house — What a great way to do the stairs and make it a storage wall. This just screams the owner and anyone would feel comfortable here. The pull out table – such a good idea and it can do double function as a prep area — then “poof” it is out of the way. Normally I would not like all the color, but this is spot on and the cats, of course, are the frosting on this cake. A very unique and liveable tiny home with many useable ideas. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us, such originality! I am doing a happy dance for you! LOL

I agree with some it has too many dust collectors, but that said, you got to admit the darn home is pretty snazzy. Lot of folks like to decorate and if it’s theirs they should go any way they please.
I think the floorplan is nice. I do like the regular pitched roofs or just high on one end. The curve roofs are a little to Gypsyish for me.
But I was impressed with it, and thank you for sharing with the rest of us. I live in a 2600 sq ft house, and have grown to dislike the never ending cleaning and dusting ( Arizona is dusty most everywhere even the mountains where we live). Bye, thanks again and enjoy this beauty.

Where are the slippers with the upturned toes? The genie’s bottle? I think that the essence of “The Arabian Nights: Tales from a Thousand and One Nights” has been captured in a tiny house! Ali Baba surely comes to visit! Does the music from an oud or a bazuq emanate from its windows? This is quite charming in it’s Persian splendor, not to my pretty ordinary beachy-themed taste, but it certainly put a smile on my face, and was a pleasure to visit.

I really like the layout of this THOW, but the decor is a little gaudy for my taste, but then I’m old ‘country’, maybe even back woodsy! Evidently there is no “living space” down stairs, but uses one of the lofts for that purpose.

I like the roof design, it appears to have more headroom than typical peaked roof designs.

  • Beth

I love what she did with this house. I get bored with the rustic or minimal look. Love the Moroccan vibe. And, why not have a downstairs room with a lower ceiling if you’re building it for your convenience of having more vertical space in the loft. What I love most about this house are the stairs to both lofts. Many may have a stair to one side but a ladder on the other. As someone who doesn’t do ladders this is perfect for me. If you google this tiny house there is a video tour with more detail.
