224 Sq. Ft. Tiny Surf House Atop 900 Sq. Ft. Garage

This is a 224 sq. ft. tiny house being built above a 900 sq. ft. garage by Coyle Development. This custom built home is called the ‘Tiny Surf House‘.

It features a 900 sq. ft. concrete garage that will be used as a personal gym and to store stand up paddle-board, bicycles, kayaks, etc. Atop the garage will be a 14′ x 16’ tiny house which leaves 676 sq. ft. for a large outdoor deck.

The engineering plans were completed by Historic Shed and all construction is being done by Coyle Devleopment. The interior of the home will be set up like a studio with a full size bathroom and kitchen.

The future homeowners decided to build this tiny house after 5 years of extended road trips which included essentially living out of hotel rooms. During that time they discovered the joy of simplicity in living arrangements as well as the freedom to travel thanks to a simpler lifestyle.

Their goal is to spend their time and money on experiences rather than living to work to pay for more stuff to put in a space in which there is no time to enjoy. They’ve realized they prefer accumulating memories more than THINGS. They are looking forward to being surrounded by only the things that bring them joy.

We look forward to seeing the Tiny Surf House once construction is complete. For updates join our free daily tiny house newsletter. Please enjoy, learn more and re-share below. Thank you!

I’ve always liked small living spaces on top of garages. My only changes would be a wider garage door and perhaps a few windows for lighting and ventilation on the garage floor — otherwise it works for me.

This would make a fantastic live/work space for makers. You could also have a wide open studio for dance or other types of energetic activity. Band space. Lots of possibilities. Really like this arrangement. I’m assuming the garage space takes care of minimum square footage requirements.

Hi we are considering buying a lot in the Venice Florida area. Can you give me a range to what this might cost for you to build there? Thanks

Why not contact the company yourself instead of having your personal business on here? I wouldn’t want to share my finances with strangers on a blog 🙂 Do some homework first, as zoning for a “lot in the Venice area” might not allow you to build this. Subdivisions usually have restrictions, making it difficult for creative people. They want everybody to look the same.
If you’re in Florida now, this is a great time to look at property. The recent thunderstorms have turned the state into one big lake. You can see if the lot of your dreams is accessible or ninety percent swamp. Good luck.

    So Cool!!
A nice home, patio in the breeze above the mosquito’s with a concrete workshop below is hard to beat for
    low cost living.
By working at home you can work much less, pay less taxes while making, keeping more money.
Another in here in Fla, I’m 12 miles SE of Tampa, built with concrete walls if foam insulted, almost never have to heat or cool other than a fan cooling it at night in the summer and in the heat of the day in winter the mass keeps you very comfortable.
Good roof overhangs help keep both water and heat away.
One might put the house on the bottom too and use the whole roof for a patio with a solar panel shaded area.
Places like Lowes has plans for like these normally a garage with a guest house one could use.

Cool idea! I like this a lot for a “home port” Then the THOW can go to the left beside the stairway. Inside the upstairs tiny house could be built a drop down stairway. Like the drop down for attacks. Then it could fold up when not in use to not take up space in the garage when not in use. Too cool hehehe ok. God bless you all and thank you for sharing your ideas and we look forward to seeing your little home when completed. Who knows, perhaps the stairway idea will come before you are all finished and can leave a cement hole on top that will be covered by the tiny house to put the stairway in. Happy trails!
