Vince and Sam work hard and play harder. They love to rock climb and go hiking with their dog; they want a tiny house that fits their fun-loving lifestyle. But Sam is a medical student so she needs her own quiet study space too. John and Zack must blend this couple’s active and studious sides, designing a very unique tiny house.

I saw this one on British TV and loved it! I
Couldn’t manage the climbing wall, but love their storage staircase!

This place is really unique as far as the kitchen walls go and all over a very nice home. Lots of space in loft bedroom.

I really love the lofts in these tiny homes. Unfortunately, at 65 it is getting too hard for me to get up from low places. Unless I could find an easy way to raise the roof for more height, guess I will have to plan to have a murphy bed downstairs in whatever I finally build.

Have you seen the models where the bed slides out from underneath the kitchen floor? Then you can still use lofts for storage if you have lofts at all.

I have not seen one of those. Do you have a link you could post, I would love to see it. Does it raise up to a normal bed height after it pulls out?

          Here is the link, Joy.
This one does not raise up and neither do any of the other slide under styles I’ve seen, but there may be a way to put expandable legs under it or something?
Good luck in your search for the perfect tiny home!

The pullout bed is a really cute idea, but is still too low for people like me to get on and off from easily, unless they can come up with a way to make it spring up in height after it is pulled out. Having stairs to get into the kitchen might also become a problem or already be a problem for some people. I hope the tiny house designers start consulting with elderly or disabled people in coming up with better ideas for a retirement tiny house that takes into consideration the accessibility problems. I would also like a great ramp system for entering and exiting the exterior door that would allow a walker to be safely used.

Have you thought about doing a raised loft with a bed under it? Regular height off the floor with perhaps supports being drawers. I did a real quick sketch but need a place to put it… lol I’ll share it on the Tiny House Talk FB page.

I’ve also thought about the aging in place in a tiny house, Joy. I plan on a daybed as a couch in the living space, which doubles as my bed at night. Not far to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night, no stairs to navigate half-asleep, no bumping my head forgetting to stoop in a loft. Just one option to think about…murphy beds can be hard to raise/lower when you’re older.

Question: There is a small wall-mounted appliance that looks like a heater behind the floor plant stand.
Can someone tell me what it is and the brand?

Matt it’s a boat heater not sure which one but search under narrowboat parts suppliers and you shall find what you need buddy, trust that helps you on the road to what you require 🙂

Probably a Dickinson heater. They come in diesel or propane.

Love this, but might have to place a sofa bed where regular sofa is located due to disability and use one loft for company and maybe the other for extra storage if needed. Would like to know an approx. price?

if I remember the episode correctly. Their budget was 30k, but of course with the show, probably levereged for all kinds of products, certainly for the patterned walls, and maybe even the bathroom tiles, and of course, Zack’s clever custom features like the pop up desk. I have no clue how much that would cost.

Finally, a wee home with big style! Small spaces do not have to be devoid of color or pattern, they just have to be cohesive and not overwhelming. My preferences aren’t for lots of pattern, wallpaper, or the color mustard. Yet, I’m so drawn to this space because it’s SO well done!

I remember this show. One of their best houses, definitely. The bathroom is not shown, but its gorgeous, it has tile in the shower. Crazy in love with the patterned walls. Love the exterior, overall just really a sweet house. Only thing though, based on the couple’s faces at the end of the show in the “how they are doing now” segment. Not enough closet space. They had a tiny little closet under the steps.
As much as it would pain me if I were them, I would take out the sliding door and put in a single door, build up a wall that would hold a nice size closet.

Many reasons Susanne. For some the reality doesn’t match the fantasy. Others it might be circumstances change, such as babies, or a THOW just isn’t big enough for them. Some people might get a job where they have to entertain clients/customers and a THOW just doesn’t cut the mustard. Ludicrous zoning regulations which would appear, from an outsider (I’m a Kiwi) violations of the constitution. And there will be heaps of other reasons as well.

Hi, i find the majority of the sleeping lofts are very confined in their head room. Even with multiple windows they are very cramped. I like the idea of the raised platform where the bed is placed; the headroom is suitable for standing up, much taller than the 3′ of headroom in the sleeping lofts.. You can have the couch/living room underneath with the cieling at a lower height. namaste’, rachel

Tiny houses just don’t have the room for all the clearances required for disabled people. Any ADA handbook can give those to you. You might just be looking for affordable housing for disabled–and it probably won’t include tiny houses.

I think my point is that this home was designed for fully mobile folks who like rock climbing, so I don’t know if this is the best tiny house to be discussing mobility issues on. Now, in the comments of a tiny house meant to be ADA friendly, that makes sense!

Love the living room! Sorry, but I hate the wallpaper. Also if my husband was a climber and I’m not, I still wouldn’t want bumps all over my wall! LOL
