1977 Solar/Wind Powered 4×4 School Bus Conversion

I’m excited to share this 1977 solar/wind powered 4×4 school bus conversion that I found over at Skoolie.net with you right now.

Inside you’ll find most of the comforts typically found in a tiny house on wheels like a fully functional kitchen with plenty of storage.

This off-grid ready 4×4 bus also has an area for sleeping, lots of overhead storage throughout, wood stove for heat, and more. The only thing I’m unsure of is if there’s a shower and toilet. Either way, I thought you’d also love to take a look. Enjoy!

Wish we had a batter idea of the actual layout–in one pic it looks like the kitchen is almost in the “bedroom” area but the woodstove–which looks like it dominates the kitchen–is way up front by the drivers seat!

Very cool tho and like the straps on the shelves to keep things in place!

I know I was a little disappointed with the pictures, too, but it is pretty challenging to photograph one of these spaces

I agree that I could not quite tell the layout, but I imagine that the stove has a storage box underneath for wood, and there is always more space than pictures can show. I love the cabinets and the hue of the stianed wood. It is just a neat old bus, and the driver’s dashboard looks vintage. It is really nice!

I also love the clean lines. That is my taste and don’t really want to belittle anyone who likes more stuff in, on, and around their dwellings. I am more comfortable with the style shown in this cabin. As for toilet, I like privacy and want to shield myself and visitors from views of my toilet use. Love the unfussy way he has covered the windows and the way they can be moved to let in the light and see the scenes.
I have lived in a bus and would love it if my bus had looked 1/100 as good as this.

The woodwork in there is gorgeous.

The layout is difficult to see, but it looks like the wood stove is behind the drivers seat, the kitchen is right behind that, and the bed platform right next to that. But all I could see of the door side was the bitty closet next to the bed and the chest of drawers next to it. No idea what’s between that and the door, if anything, though.

great design! i would get rid of that huge stove, get a 2 burner counter top, take the top off the stove and push it under counter. woman’s view. love that wood, unique storage.

I have seen this bus before and I really like it. The wood is beutiful and the use of space is good. The dash board up front is gorgeous. It looks less wide than buses these days…is it more narrow?
