Its simple, yet I think for $10k a person could build one for less closer to home. There is a Mennonite gentleman near us in Angels Camp CA that build wood sheds the same size for around $2k, and a trailer can be had for $1-2k.

I wonder how many labor hours go into something like this.

10k , come on now let’s not diss our tiny house movement by trying to sell a storage trailer for that much……(it’s disrespectful for
    The true conception tiny homer.)
    5 k would be pushing it .

That’s a lot of money for a basic box that is not very attractive and has few windows, but it does have a cute door.

Marsha, since you’ve got quite a bit of construction experience, how quick can you build something like it? 😀

I built the Nest, a 6 1/2′ by 6 1/2 ‘ tiny home on a specially made 6000lb. axle with 5800lb. Tires (combined), a storage attic the length of the house, a bay window with a hobbit door for reaching the propane pumps without going outside, overhead lights with remote, electrical outlets, simple kitchen plumbing, lots of storage, cooktop, and if I say so myself, totally lovely and charming with a beautiful door with 1920s box lock, porcelain handles, and solid red brass hinges. The three 24″ square windows were Pella double glazed sliding windows with screens, and it had a metal roof. It was made from all new materials and took me almost three weeks working alone and working around my teaching job at the time, and I sold it for $7500 which was a handsome profit two years ago, and that was for something that slept one. Since I am building again soon, I have been pricing materials for a tiny house that sleeps two and I have to say that the prices haven’t gone up but a few cents. I think $6500 would be a fair price for your tiny house.

Sorry, Alex, I meant” a fair price for that tiny house”.

If I could work 8 hour days every day, and have all the materials ready to go, I think that house could be built and painted in a few days., maybe four, by one person. Less if one has a helper. It is not a bad house at all, just very simple and plain, and you know how I feel about the cuteness factor. It makes all the difference in whether you enjoy living in something or you don’t.

Two weekends by yourself to build this, it doesn’t even have a pitched roof.

Funny, Marsha, as soon as I saw it, I thought of you and your cute little homes. I knew that you hadn’t paid 10k for yours, and they are so much nicer. Macy Miller’s house cost $11k, including the washer/dryer, stove, and furnishings.
This thing is a huge disappointment, with no ‘cute’ factor whatsoever, and I was thinking that even a shed could have more charm and function. This is exactly what I have feared would happen. Ugly, overpriced, not well designed or executed sheds on wheels that will be abandoned all over the country and give THOWs a bad name.

Its a tool shed on wheels. Maybe a ice fishing house but not a home

the loft looks scary. I’m not sure that I could sleep on that. it doesn’t look like its framed in or anything.

It would be better if there was additional protection on the free edge of the bed, preventing to fall while asleep

That’s quite pricey considering there is less than $1000.00 in materials.

Well I know how many hours it takes to build square and plumb and without welding the trailer new in my shop it would cost thousands in materials in Texas

Is it just me but do people not value their time? Let’s consider a living wage at 11.50 an hour and let’s just say it took 160 hrs that doesn’t include health benefits, sick leave, 401k, general cost of employee, that’s $1840. Materials and trailer can be easily figured out but let’s say $3500-4000 (depends on if it’s a quality trailer and quality Windows). Oh wait what about the time/ cost to market, do showings, pay rent for a site to build it on, oh and then there is insurance, oh and then maybe they provide a warranty. If people actually knew what it takes to run a small successful construction business they would think twice about some of their comments, the key there is “successful”, not “bairly making it”. of course everyone has a different definition of successful;) Rant done. Sweet project though, I hope whatever company built this isn’t diswaded from building these, keep it simple that’s my moto.

Get real. . .the tiny house industry is (and should be) DIY, not commercial.

I hope this person will take his obviously great building skills and add a little creativity to it. This is a well framed tiny house, just too plain to enjoy living in for very long. The paneling with those seams, for instance, says cheap, and shows 24″ spacing of the wall studs which I feel is too far for something that will travel down the road. I got a closed in feeling from looking at a lot of wall space without windows. In other words, it is not about how inexpensively one can build a house and get it out there for profit, it is about how well one can build a house and get it out there for a reasonable price for the product. This builder has potential. He just needs a better vision.

That cute A-frame that was made available lately ( plans to buy-designed by jay shafer was it ?) is suppose to cost 2,500 and so much better!

Seems pretty pricey to me for not much more than a small garden shed on wheels. Looks to be about the size of a large coffin inside.

I don’t think people should get so worked up over the price that others list a tiny house for. If you don’t like the price don’t buy it! It is a free country though say what you want and list your tiny house for the price you want. Sellers will get the hint when they don’t get any buyers.

Thanks Jerod! I don’t think complaining about people’s prices solves anything or helps in anyway. Plus, it’s not very considerate in terms of how much time was spent designing/building it. In a way, it’s devaluing the person’s work. I think it might be more productive to complain about inflation (and that’s not productive either).
